So this is a thing:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...C4v8IEKfw3k0aw

They want $20,000.

I'll probably give 'em $10, just because I'd like to see how these episodes are gonna be. The acting in the "trailer" was a bit over the top for my tastes.

Didn't bother watching the trailer, 'cause I'm not parting with my money.

Everything looks good except for April. Interesting choice of design, though... 2007, why?

I’ll take a look tomorrow, but it’s good to hear we may have fan-made film and series options after all if this gets funded.

Assumedly this is to be a sequel to the first movies... the fourth one included.

I guess so. And it is the most action-oriented April.

Any concerns about the legitimacy of this project? I saw some concerns voiced on Tumblr but this is hardly the first fan made film...

You do raise a good point, Alessandra. I certainly hope they’ve gotten all the necessary rights, but, knowing how much money they’re asking for from people like us, I wouldn’t doubt that they at least are trying to.

I know in general they're not as protective over their IP as other companies. But I'm wondering if a fan film and Kickstarter like this would raise any issues.

They've definitely secured 0 rights.

I certainly hope they're not as protective as Nintendo is known to be, assuming the concerns are true and they have no explicit permission whatsoever. I never followed it, admittedly, but I know "A Fox in Space" was quite legally controversial for being a fanseries based on Nintendo's StarFox.

13 days left in the Kickstarter and they still lack over 80% of their original funding goal. Good luck to 'em, they're gonna need it!

Fan movies are tricky stuff to avoid legal hassle, especially when they are crowdfunded. But unless Viacom is super trigger happy on that stuff, just following the CBS Star Trek guidelines to some extent should be fine?

The costumes looks pretty good.

I think it just becomes problematic when fans start asking for millions of dollars... and start getting it. Then they have to step in.

That, and don't merchandise the fan-movie for profits.

Only $3,927 total pledged on the Kickstarter at its expiration, well short of the goal.

They posted an update:

Well, we unfortunately didn't make our goal.

We believed that this project would have done better with the TMNT community and though we created some great buzz, it wasn't enough.

BUT WE'RE NOT GIVING UP!

WE'LL BE BACK IN A FEW DAYS!

We will be relaunching this project fundraising on Indiegogo. On Kickstarter, it's all or nothing. On Indiegogo, we're able to use what money we do raise so we can put it toward the series. Whatever we can't raise toward our goal, the cast and crew will try to pitch in to make our TMNT dream come true.

Please join our social media pages for the most recent updates on the new Indiegogo web address coming out in a few days.

We still need your support and pledges to make this series a reality! We will still have the same rewards and pricing...so all you'll have to do is pledge again!

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NinjaTurtles1

Instagram: @ninjaturtlesfanseries

Website: teamninjaturtle.com

We're excited to get the project up and running. We'll talk to all of you again soon!

Thank you for the continued support and love for our series and for the Turtles we all love so much.

Sincerely,

Team Ninja Turtle

Sounds pretty shifty to me... like, "We don't actually NEED $20,000 to make this... but we'll take what we can get! Too bad we didn't do Indiegogo so we can just keep what everyone pledges! Next time!"

Oh, absolutely.

I realize the idea of a fan series with live action turtles is exciting, but their little preview clip is just a bunch of really boring dialogue, and then the turtles show up and nod their heads a bunch. ehhhhh... this would just be throwing money away.
