Do you meditate?
I'm surprised there isn't a thread for this on here (unless there is one? I searched for one and couldn't find it). It seems relevant to the forum, on account of Splinter.
So I have 2 main questions: 1. Do you meditate? 2. How effective is it for you?

Probably the only one who will say yes, but I do, on occasion. I do both light and deep meditation, and also lucid dreamwork occasionally. Used to meditate more often, but lately I just haven't really thought about it much. It does help with sleep and stress, though, as well as for more esoteric uses.

I looked for a local class in recent months but couldn't find one close to home and in convenient hours. I've done a little in the past. I did notice when I did it that I naturally don't really relax my shoulders.

I pray, so I guess that counts as religious meditation?

Uh... that may depend on what counts?
The typical image people think of for someone purposely trying to do it or follow specific teachings or instructions... no, have never done that. Have I often in my years enjoyed just sitting and listening to the quiet, just being still, eyes closed, enjoying the calm and calm mind... yes. That's just natural for me. I imagine it is at least related behaviors. |

That certainly counts, yes. Meditation, at its most basic, IS simply being "still". Stillness of mind and body, relaxed and calm. Anything more than that becomes an exercise in GUIDED meditation, which is directing the mind/body in specific paths of thought and breathing, etc. Some people are naturally better able to still the mind, while others (myself included) find it harder to silence the inner voice of our thoughts to reach that state.

I don't practice meditation, and, it is a personal investment that I might want to look into. It might really help me out when I need it.

I do, but I'm not all that knowledgeable on it. Total beginner doesn't begin to describe my level.
I do find it helps to calm me down if I get too anxious, or help sort out my thoughts when I have too much on my mind. I'll set a timer for about 15 minutes and sit in quiet. It's nice to have some time in the day dedicated to silence.
