Someone hacked my Amazon account, and its seriously stressing me out. So far no new orders been made, but I'm somewhat certain that I didn't have any stored card info since I use paypal.

I've emailed customer service, so we'll see what happens...

That sucks. Had my purse stolen once with my checkbook in it. Fortunately only one check was left but the culprit used it in the next town over to pay for 400$ in groceries. Luckily I had stopped payment already by the time she did it. (This was in the mid-90's before electronic check payments and such.) What pissed me off the most is that it was in a locked employee locker at the place I worked at. But they were in the public bathroom so anyone would have had access.... Stupid idea to put employee belongings in a publicly used space....

HOOOO BOY, DO I HAVE A STORY OF ID THEFT FOR YOU!

So several years ago, when my mom was the assistant director of the church preschool she works for (now full director), she had her purse and everything in it stolen from her office. A serial thief followed some parents in during pickup time, snuck into the office (which is right next to the entry door), snatched up the purse, and disappeared.

And when my mom first noticed that the purse was gone and started seeing weird purchases on her card, she realized it had been stolen and called to have the transactions stopped. She had an expensive set of sunglasses in her purse as well.

So, it turns out this lady did this constantly, and regularly stole from preschools, nursing homes, and the like. Basically, she was the worst.
When the police finally caught up to her, she and her accomplice tried to make an escape in a van. One thing led to another and she either fell out of the van - or was pushed out by her accomplice - and was killed when the wheels ran her over. This was about two weeks after she stole from my mother.

So of course a church service was dedicated to discussing what she had done and her ultimate fate, but I don't really remember what had happened. This was in something like...2007 - 2010. It was as long time ago.

Security at the school was pushed up a little bit and some more changes were made, but it was quite the event for a few weeks.

Wow, that's terrible. I assume you surely deleted said info and changed password since then? (And PayPal if same/similar?) Hopefully Amazon will easily deal with that quick, they prob do every day, but no one needs that kind of stress in the meantime.

And wasn't possible some phishing scam email?

I got a freaky one the other day supposedly pretending to be from PayPal, yet also Ebay... the Outlook Hotmail even put it in their new pointless "Focused" section, right alongside other legit messages from Paypal; not helping.

Subject line:

Quote:
Request Change your shipping address has been successful, following details of your new shipping address 613 Harlan st, Lakewood, CO, 80214
Quote:
Delivery Name: Daniel F johnson

Delivery Address: 613 Harlan st, Lakewood, CO, 80214

Item: Addias Yezzy Boost 350 V2 White/cream Size 10.5

If you don't want request new shipping address or you didn't request this change, you can cancel this transaction with this link.
Wtf.

I checked both sites though and there was no related activity in either account, plus the true email was weird and the language is a tad off, so it's got to be a fake, but what the hell. Did forward it to both PayPal and Ebay though.

edit: Bonus story... Prob two or three years ago someone dared to use my email address somehow, for some reason. This happened twice, not terribly far apart, so it may have been the same person, but using separate names. I got a couple email confirmations for sites I'd never bought from. (So luckily I was sure I wasn't actually compromised in any way.) One of those sites was definitely legit... Sears. So I reported it to them. The other site appeared to be legit as well when I looked it up (without using any email links). Because the emails were coming to MY email address... I changed the password/email (I think via telling him to go eff himself or some such phrase), got into the account, canceled the real order on him and reported it. *evil grin*

Duckie, that's absurd they'd not protect employees better! And wow, Utrommaniac... Gosh, I hope that lady found it all worth it in the end to become road kill. Sounds like she got what she deserved though.

Knock on wood, fortunately the only purse I ever had stolen was one in middle school, when I left it on the floor by my locker and when I realized just as class started and asked to run and get it, it was gone and didn't turn up. While its lucky at that age there really wasn't much worth taking, I still feel bad for losing it, esp the little coin purse I had. And the thought of them ending up in the hands of some crummy excuse for a human being, given how that school was at the time.

Due to extenuating circumstances I was forced to go to the most wrenched place I've ever had the displeasure of going to: the local mall.

I loathe that place with every fiber of my being and would rather go anywhere but there.

anyone know what the deal is with this nerdist edition?

I am NOT a nerdist fan. something about the guy comes off as unlikeable.
so when I heard that Talkin Toons was going to video and over on his network, i was not overly happy.

now I find out you have to pay to hear talking toons now? at the end of a video rob did, there was a message 'start your 30 d ay free trial..'.

anyone know if the audio version of the podcast will still be around? I'd hate to give up talking toons, cause i'm not giving moneny to nerdist

Phishing emails are insanely good these days. I remember the first really good one I got ( the first one I actually bothered to investigate ). I got an email that a PayPal transaction had been authorized for $400 Australian. Wtf? So I went to PayPal and saw nothing.

Since I work at a bank I see these all the time and know not to click links but I can see how some people do. Fear in the moment plus a well done fraud site and email.

The best thing to do when you get one is to find the fraud address for the legit company that is being used in the scam ( ie in my case PayPal ) and forward the email to them. They use the emails to stay on top of scams and alert users to be aware of those scams.

Yeah, I always try to do that whenever possible.

Esp like forwarding the fake IRS ones to the real IRS. That takes either serious guts or serious stupidity to try impersonate them.

Grind... So irked with the family. Got home from work shortly after 4pm to find a note on the door saying not to go in. They'd decided to bug bomb the house and no one was to go in until after 3pm to open up the house, and then stay out again until after 5pm.

Meanwhile, I'm tired and just wanting to change clothes, hit the bathroom, actually eat something for once today other than a single granola bar, and sit down for a while. But here I am shortly after 4pm no one had bothered to return at 3 to air out the house... So guess who got to do it. And try to risk overexposing herself to the pesticide for the length of time I was in the house because I still needed to change and use the damn bathroom... not to mention fight the darn cats who wanted in from the porch while I only wanted to crack that door open but prevent them from getting in... And was the water spray bottle anywhere to be seen, of course not. So I just had to throw a glass of water to scare them back. And then while fighting with the door accidentally dropped the glass...

Felt bad about breaking it, but at that point I just needed to push it all aside and leave it there so I could get back out of the house.

So my family, with the convenience of not having to deal with any of that themselves, and perhaps didn't even have to leave again since I took care of opening the house up... and not a single thanks. As predicted, all my mother could comment about was the stupid glass. "I hope she's going to clean the glass up." (Wtf. No, I'm just going to leave it there. I always just leave broken glass laying around, right? Actually, depending on how long they'd been home it would have been nice for one of them to get it. At least I'd left a note to warn them!) I guess she'd have rather I just get overexposed to the pesticide in the air and cleaned it up right then, while somehow fighting to keep the cats from getting in (they were in the enclosed back porch) or getting hurt by the glass.

Of course, after having to leave again for two hours, when I got home I now had to immediately deal with the fish tank as well, so I still couldn't sit down or eat for a while. (Finally did just now...) If I had known they were doing this crap today I'd have liked to cover my fish tank up so they don't poison her... At least someone was a little considerate enough to block the space under the doors with towels. Room still smelled like it though, even if the doors were closed.

Once I got back home, they'd already been able to close everything and get the AC on. How nice for them.

New twist to the cat story.

It seems the dog I was worried about has been bitten by a cat in the past, so that pretty much changes everything.

Speaking of cats..... Took Demona to the vet Thursday. Found out it was (possibly) worse than I had feared. Not glaucoma, but a lymphoma in her eye. Not much they could do except maybe take out the eye, but she said it was a drastic measure at this stage since Demona didn't seem to be in any pain from it, and to just keep watching it to see if it gets any worse. So we got her rabies shot and went home. I was right that the cloudiness was INSIDE the eye though. Between the cornea and pupil, rather than on the lens.

Aww man! That sucks

I helped a lady with a cat that had his eye removed. It was how I learned to give cats eyedrops...

Gear grinder: Got the Internet bill for the past month and found out I was over my minutes which I have never done since we got Verizon and our computers. Mom and I get separate bills so we were surprised when we found out I was over my minutes. Turns out that FF.Net is now playing videos automatically and that was the problem. The guy said to switch to Mozilla Firefox instead of using Microsoft Edge which came with the computer. So, I did that and things seemed to be fine because only ads were loading up. Then, I go on again and see the videos again! Not cool! Tried to find a way via Mozilla to block said videos but there was nothing to do that with. Looks like we might have to upgrade to 12GB instead of 5GB which we have now.

Pain in the butt for me! I wish they would just give you the option of playing the video instead of it playing automatically.

I know the feeling. Gifs in people's sigs suck up mine. I tether to my phone so it uses up my high speed.
