OK, now I have an actual thing to say about the movie. Do you think it would have sucked less if the main character wasn't Carol with a convoluted version of her backstory, but rather a Mar-Vell/Carol combo? You know, basically just a female Mar-Vell using the Carol Danvers name in her human disguise. I know we'd lose out on wonderful parts like the "cockpit" flashback and the misleading statements about the US air force, but you would get a more focused plot and a stronger character (even if that doesn't fix the lead actress).

It is correct but the way it's presented in the movie makes it seem as if women were only allowed to be test pilots, while the reality is that it was specifically just combat they were barred from. The example wikipedia lists is women piloting tankers. It's also worth noting that experienced combat pilots are generally prefered to test new models, which you know, just makes everything about this scenario kind of weird. If Carol never piloted a combat vehicle, how would she know if it'd be good for combat? That's why test pilots exists. If anything she'd be the last option. The movie is technically not wrong in what it's stating, it's how it's presented that bugged me.

I assume you're talking about First Avenger and not any comic here. I'd have to rewatch it to be sure but from what I remember, he was only granted the title as a publicity stunt because he ended upbeing a gloryfied mascot before taking charge. It wasn't like "Here's some sci-fi 'roids, now go kick some nazi ass!".

He's still a captain in rank though, stunt or not. Carter does refer to Steve as Captain Rogers when he went missing

I don't understand how the energy thing works. What happens to the potential energy when it's not shooting out of her hands and stuff? Is it produced by her cells? Does she need to eat a lot to prevent her body from consuming itself?

I guess the writers thought they were making magic powers seem more plausible by bestowing them with pseudoscience, but ironically I think it would have been more believable if it were a case of "I'm a magic wizard, and I'm giving you my magic wizard powers Carol Danvers".
