Stargate (Amazon Prime)

Quote:
Amazon isn’t ignoring its new purchase of the Stargate franchise — not by a long shot. Executives at Amazon are actively soliciting pitches for new science fiction series, and that includes significant interest in Stargate.

Among those who reportedly have expressed interest in Stargate to Amazon are The Expanse creators Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. Amazon has an existing relationship with the writing team, having picked up The Expanse from Syfy Channel and producing the show’s final three seasons as an Amazon exclusive.

The update comes from TV and marketing veteran Jenny Stiven, who appeared (along with GateWorld’s editor Darren Sumner) on a special “State of the Gate” episode of “Dial the Gate” on December 3.

“There was a call from Amazon Creative Studios for pitches from production companies, and it wasn’t specific to Stargate,” she said. This was both before and after the company’s acquisition of MGM earlier this year; and of course it included conversations with producers with whom Amazon already had existing relationships. “One of the things that was done was that they would say with certain production companies that they had either already worked with or were really excited about — like Mark Fergus and Hawk, his partner — ‘Hey, we loved what you’ve done. What would you like to do?’ And from my understanding they said, ‘Stargate.'”

Others who are rumored to be pitching ideas for the Stargate franchise include producers of another of Amazon’s fantasy hits, The Boys, as well as J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot. GateWorld has not independently confirmed this, though both entities came up in Saturday’s conversation as likely to be in the mix.

I'd like to see this make a comeback. I only ever followed SG-1 for a few seasons, but I liked the show and always meant to power watch all things Stargate at some point.

I once joked that JJ Abrahams will get his hands on Stargate and will **** it up like he did with Star Trek and Star Wars, but...I never ****ing expected it to be a possibility in a real ****ing life!!!

This is a clown world truly.

Does it annoy anyone else that the title of this franchise is spelled "Stargåte"? Makes me think it is about riddles.

I've never seen anyone writing it like this in a casual conversation.

I'd hope they'd want to at least want to have some of the SG-1 creatives in the room. Unless we're talking total reboot... which really isn't exciting at all.

I hope for a complete reboot - I don't want those rainbow-for-brains to ruin SG1 characters.

And he had nothing to do with subsequent SG projects.
Movie is cool, but its own thing, more or less, in terms of atmosphere and characters.

Kind of. Though they did bring back even a couple of the same actors from the first movie playing the same characters in the show.

I feel as though Brad Wright has been talking about new series since the end of SG:U

https://www.gateworld.net/news/2022/...probably-dead/

It would seem getting the man who gave us SG:1 and SG:A would be a ****ing slam dunk, no brainer!

So I can see JJ getting is hands on this, and then palming it off Bob Orci to destroy.

All I wanted was the Stargate Atlantis: Extinction and Stargate SG-1: Revolution direct to video movies we never got. It would've wrapped up Atlantis and wrapped up SG-1 quite nicely.

I thought Extinction was just going to be what was proposed for the S6 opener.
Would've have awesome to have some closure.

Well the issue there is a continuation can go two ways.

The Russell T Davies way, bring back Doctor Who, modernise but don't **** with the core aspects of it. Generally well accepted.

Then there is the Bad Robot way of doing Star Wars/Trek. Then you think to yourself, maybe a full reboot wouldn't be that bad.
