The Rock Confirmed To Play Black Adam In DC's "SHAZAM" Movie

So, after years of speculation, The Rock is finally confirmed to be playing Black Adam in the upcoming Captain Marvel/ "SHAZAM!" film from DC/WB.

- The Rock wrote more on Facebook yesterday about his role as Black Adam in DC Comics' Shazam movie:

"This role has been years in the making. A true honor for me to become my favorite comic anti-hero of all time - BLACK ADAM. Lets have some fun."

I really don't like The Rock in much, but I've been saying for years this is the role he was born to play. I honestly can't think of more perfect, spot-on casting for anything than this. I've always liked Captain Marvel; my hopes for this movie honestly went up a ton after reading this.

I know some people were speculating and would prefer that he play Captain Marvel/Shazam himself, but it's better this way. He'd have been a "decent" Captain Marvel but a PERFECT Black Adam. Sometimes you just shouldn't go against the grain.

Don't care about Shazam or Black Adam..I'm just glad the whole "who is the Rock playing" speculation can finally end.

It's pretty dumb on WB's part to have this movie separate from the new DC universe. Why are you wasting the Rock?

I'll be honest bro.
I'm not the biggest Rock fan, but I can see how they are connecting the dots. The perfect egyptian anti-Shazam is a hard casting call. Let's hope they do it some justice..

Now to just find out who will be Shazam! Wonder if they'll even call him Captain Marvel? I know Injustice doesn't, but MkvsDc did.

You know, when I first heard about this, I thought they were doing a reboot of the Shazam movie that Shaq starred in. Glad to hear that's not the case. I'm not familiar with this character, but it's cool that he's playing someone he admires. I'm sure he'll do the role justice.

Didn't DC just start calling Captain Marvel Shazam due to legality issues? That and or confusion. But good for the Rock, I'm just wondering who Shazam's gonna be.

Yeah, it was because Marvel also had a character called Captain Marvel as well. And because they gained the trademark to the name, DC had to change the name of Cap to "Shazam".

Which doesn't really make sense considering Captain Marvel/Shazam was created in 1941 and the Marvel character didn't appear till 1967.

The Rock wouldn't make a good Captain Marvel, he makes a great Black Adam. My favorite scene from that character is in Villains United in a meeting he is floating and they ask him why he is floating and his explanation was just an awesome character moment, from then on I've been a fan.

So Captain Marvel is Shazam now? That's lame, what's the name of the Wizard now? Captain Marvel? And I don't think they changed the name because of a legal battle, I think it was DCs plan? It seems that way from what I read. Maybe they didn't want to give Marvel any promotion by having Captain Marvel as a movie/comic around.

Anyway, a captain marvel movie is not something I really would ask for, and I like the character but now that they're doing it I hope it's really out there with ideas to differentiate him from Superman. Take advantage of the kid in a supermans body and the fantasy elements.

The wizard is still Shazam. I'm pretty sure it's cus of Marvel's Captain that he has to be called Shazam.

We'll the DCCU kinda sucks so.... distancing themselves from it might give this movie a chance. Kinda wish Suicide squad did the same thing tbh.

You're replying to an old post. It's since been confirmed to be a part of the DC cinematic universe.

Me, I give two craps about Shazam, but who knows. I'd rather see the Rock play Darkseid under heavy makeup, layething the smacketh down on those jabronis named Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, checking them into the Smackdown Hotel. There was actually some pretty cool fan designs for the Rock as Apocalypse in that last X-Men... attempt... that were pretty compelling.

Captain Marvel could be fun, but they're ****ing it up.
The potential is huge, given the source material.
