Playmates First Turtles

Saw them in a Facebook group. Does anybody have info on these? Apparently, they are from Playmates!

EDIT: Found more info on Toyshiz IG page https://www.instagram.com/p/C30ckuUPpN9/

Never thought anyone would do THOSE turtles, but I actually want these!

I feel like they should all be red though if we're talking accuracy.

Don't worry, after you find all these and buy them there'll be an announcement about a con exclusive all-red version.

Yup... either that or after Playmates does it any number of the boutique manufacturers will then do it 100 x's better, but for 10x's the price.

Has any company ever done a version of the Turtles from the cover of Mirage #1?

They nailed the skintones of the classic line, this can't be a playmates release...

NECA did theirs in 2008.

I never thought I'd want figures from Playmates, but here we are.

These look really neat.

I'm just applauding them for doing something new for a change. Not sure I'll buy though. I appreciate that the turtles had to start somewhere and started off as more of a parody but I'm glad they quickly evolved from this first look L&E came up with. Never had much love for it lol.

Well shoot... I want these. Something completely different that will (hopefully) be affordably priced is what I want for TMNT right now. The boutique brands have worn out their welcome with my wallet.

Even though it's accurate, the lack of belts on Mike and Don feel wrong to me lol

My Walmart has a bunch of tmnt toys.

I’ve never been into the early designs either but these are kinda cool. They’re like kids. Not baby turtles but before teenagers. I wouldn’t mind having them.

I really want to see the figures that are supposed to have skin texture that was mentioned awhile ago.

Did they, though? Don's looking a little reddish and Raph a slight bit faded to me. I'll admit, it's pretty hard to tell sometimes with just photos, though.

One thing I notice is that some of them are missing their knee pads. While this is accurate to the sketch they're based on, I have to wonder if they'll still include optional kneepads (since the ones on Leo look like they could be removable, anyway). And, I mean... they're already taking artistic liberty by making them these colors, so may as well, right?

Yeah, kneepads and belts for everyone would be ideal if possible.

Someone on another forum is reporting these will be $12 apiece. That would be absolutely fantastic.

Interesting. Never realized how this design looks kinda similar to the ‘88 Playmates card artwork, or maybe just the colored bandannas make it seem that way.

Only a black & white set would be truly “accurate”, since they probably didn’t even know back then what colors they would be. But still looks cool like this in classic Playmates colors. I would get these if I see them in store, would make a nice display.

This is likely a response to the positive reception of the Laird BNG Bottleneck figures.

They look cool in a dorky kind of way and its possible NECA will make their versions, perhaps with an improved deco (better shaders etc.), unless they reevaluate their TMNT line and decide that it is too saturated for further experiments...

The Mondo Eastman figures (which these are based on) were extremely popular as well
