What are you talking about? The violence didn't go away. It got a little silly in 3, but 4 is arguably more violent than all three of them - You can beat people to death with their own severed legs!

They cribbed characters from Big Trouble in Little China and kickboxer (there's no way Goro isn't based on Tong Po), but the story is mostly Enter the Dragon with a bit of Blood Sport mixed in. Both R-rated if memory serves.
