Favorite TMNT artists?

Hello everybody I wanted to ask all of you which TMNT artists are your favorite. Now these people can have worked on any Turltes comic incarnation be it Mirage, IDW, Image or Archie and so on. I don't want to give you a set amount but if you want to do a top 3, 5 or even 10 then go for it. I guess you can also post some pictures if you feel like it. The artists don't have to be in any specific order. Here are some of my favorite artists in no particular order.

- Ben Bates
- Mateus Santolouco
- Sophie Campbell
- Eastman/Laird
- Jim Lawson

Dooney's pretty good, really like Bates as well. I don't quite think Zulli's realistic style is a good match for TMNT but he is an excellent artist regardless. I have a bit of a soft spot for Mark Martin, even if the actual comic he made is crap. Sakai is another one I like, nice cartoony style. I don't know if Dave Sim counts but he's pretty damn good in general.

There are plenty of artists I could bring up, these are just a few.

It'd be easier to say who I don't like. The list of those whose work I was not too keen on would be very small.

With Mirage, almost everybody's stuff is iconic in one way or another, so it's kinda like they're all my favorite at the same time. Some are known mostly for covers or product design more than interiors, so you've got a lot of variables which can change your preferences based on the context. I'll try to narrow things down to top 3's though.

Oldschool:
-Fosco
-Lawson
-Farley

Newschool:
-Campbell
-Duncan
-Bates

Maybe its just my nostalgia, but my favourite artists are Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman themselves for their art in Volume 1.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

Michael Dooney in his prime always had the best Turtles. I don't know what it was, but he makes them look so strong and cool looking. They were basically my idealized look of the Turtles when I was a young teenager. No cartoon has ever been able to replicate that look either, not even the 2k3 series.

I havent read as many TMNT comics compared to my favs -Xmen/spidey, but my favorites are:

1) Eastman/Laird

2) Michael Dooney - The Mirage #4 reprint cover by him was the first piece of TMNT art I ever saw since it was used for the 1989 NES video game.
I also liked his art for Mirage # 9, and the covers for TMNT vol.4.

I met him at a comic convention in 2015 and he signed my Ultimate edition by drawing a quick turtle head sketch

3) Chris Allan. - I only read the first 30 or so issues of Archie, but I loved that his art struck a balance between cartoony and action packed.

Well, if I had to pick a favorite, I loved the style Eastman and Laird had when they both worked on the art jointly at the start of volume 1. There was just something about it that clicked with me right away.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy their art separately as well, but they had a kind of magic when they worked together on it.

I like most of the main artists for IDW, but I'd say Mateus Santolouco is my favorite overall.

Sometimes I like artists for particular stories or situations, like I just felt Campbell worked well for drawing Alopex and getting the feel of the Northhampton arc, and Eastman worked great for a gritty one shot like the issue that kicked off the City Fall arc.

Agreed. For the most part Bobby has done a bang-up job matching artists' style to the tone of the turtle tale for IDW.

For the more seriously drawn Turtles style - Michael Dooney and the earlier works of Eastman & Laird. (I liked their Fugitoid story.)

For the more OT Turtles style - Ken Mitchroney.

I also have a soft spot for Dan Berger, Chris Allan and Cory Smith.

there's been SO many Great artist to draw Tmnt on both Mirage and IDW
i can't really say who my all time "ABSOLUTE" favorite is.

some of my favorite drawn stories were from the early Eastman & Laird Mirage years, though i really enjoyed a great many of the Lawson/Brown works. as well as AC Farley, Michael Dooney, Talbot, Corben... too many to run through.

IDW has had some really amazing artists as well.
the shared art duties of Duncan and Santolouco in issue #5 were some of my favorite in IDW.
Zack Howard's Deviations was also very magnificent!

guess it just depends on what i'm in the mood for.

The Mirage crew was universally amazing. Let's not forget the few times Talbot or Farley did a comic.

I also loved Chris Allan. His characters were exceedingly expressive.

In the IDW series I like Smith and Bates best. Santolouco and Campbell are both very skilled but their work has gotten a bit cutesy.

I really, really agree with that. I can't stand the cutesy. Great art, just not what I want.

And love me Fosco's art. Man oh man, Volume 3 has my favorite art for Mirage.

at times i felt myself pulled out of the story because i couldn't stop admiring the art.

Fosco's Turtles feel like a nice extension of A.C. Farley's.
