Is it allowed to necro / bump threads?

Hi, I only come by here very rarely, so I don't know much about how this site operates.

Once every few months or so I get inspired to look up questions I have about TMNT, and in my experience this place is by far the best place to find that. Usually people have already created a thread, asked these questions and gotten their answers.

Occasionally I'd also like to write something, but then I realize these threads may be several years old, and I don't know if I would just get people mad at me for writing in them by then?

So I thought I should just make sure, is it allowed for me to write in older threads?
Also I wanted to see if this question was already asked, but this Questions/Comments/Suggestions forum has only 10 threads displaying for me, of which five are stickied despite I know I made a thread here 10 years ago.

TLR is necroing of old threads allowed?

It's better than making new threads about exactly the same thing, IMO.

It really depends on the thread, but for the most part Andrew's right.

I've never understood why some people get mad about it, but that's mostly been other sites, not here.

edit: Some here are more likely to point out that a thread already exists rather than get mad about an old thread coming back to life.

With shifts in members over time it gives chance for more to discuss I guess, I mean it's that or you end up with duplicate threads as others have said.

How fun is it to enter a discussion dated let's say February 2004, and over 50 % of all participants have left, some of them even banned.

I dunno, I mean even if some of those particular people would no longer weigh in, their thoughts may still be valuable input from around the time a thing was current, alongside newer discussion in hindsight or for those who weren't in the loop at the time.

OP's question makes sense. A lot of forums will punish you for necroposting. That or you'll get a bunch of users complaining and telling you not to that ever again.

I've got something to say on this subject, but I think I'll wait at least 5 years and then bump the thread.

Anything is fair game. I love looking back at old threads from 2003-2004 when everyone was like half the age they are now.

Five-eighths, in my case.

Thank you all for your kind and welcoming replies.

Just to clarify, the threads I was looking at lately were closer to five years old than fifteen years old.

Now I believe that I can occasionally revive threads that have been inactive for a couple of years without too much fear of reprisal.

If I should happen to bother anyone doing so, please just inform me, and I'll adapt better to the ways of this forum.

Cheers everyone!

I wish I could find the very first thread I posted here but I can't find it. Most likely it was in 2005.

Yeah, these forums only allow you to go so far when searching for an user's thread history. You gotta make a ton of them for it to be hard to find your very first ones, though.
