I've have been having a problem with my windows media player, where it won't recognize my MP3 player nor my downloaded MP3 player songs I buy from Amazon. I've been doing this for years, and all of a sudden, these past few weeks, I've been getting this message.
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." I'm thinking of just going to a pc specialist for help, but before I do that, just wanted to know if others have had this problem and were able to fix it easily enough. My pc is regular Windows XP and the player is WMP 10, if that helps any or not. Thanks! |

You could try updating your Windows Media Player to 11. There's version 12 for Windows 7, but I do not believe that is available to everyone yet. Give that a shot before paying a million dollars for a guy with a community college degree.

I'm dyin' here! I've been trying like a b*tch to create (another) new layout for my site, this time built with joomla in mind, so I could run it with a CMS. I've gotten up to the point where I'm uploading all of the files to my server via FTP, but I skipped over part of a step involving the configuration.php file. Apparently, you need to change some variables contain in it:
var $log_path = '\logs'; var $tmp_path = '\tmp'; var $host = 'localhost'; var $user = 'joomla_user'; var $db = 'database_for_joomla'; var $password = 'password'; Now, I'm guessing host, user, DB and password are exactly what they say they are, but I have no idea where to find the paths for the logs/tmp files there. I'm sure they're super easy to figure out, but the examples I've seen list some stupid long directory paths, and I don't think mine is even close to as long. It's the only thing I've skipped on, thus far, and I really don't know what to do to find it. Any help would be INSANELY appreciated. |

I really can't argue with that statement.

I figured this would be the best place to post this.
I have this presentation to give in my Hardware class in 3 weeks. It's called an "Ah-Ha" presentation. Basically a simple 3 minute presentation about a new or future piece of hardware. I have no ideas, nothing is jumping out at me. To give you an idea some things people have done: 3D glasses and monitors for gaming, LCD contact lenses, solar power stuff, 3D 360 degree hologram displays(think star wars), super powerful networks....stuff like that. Anyone got any sweet ideas? |

I've got a problem with my internet on my new computer, I can only access World of warcraft and my banks web site, the rest is just acting like I don't have a internet connection. AVG won't update, nothing
but I have a good internet connection it just won't allow me access. I've scanned the computer for viruses and such. |

If it just happened out of nowhere, unless you went to some shady sites or did anything major regarding your computer, then it is probably on your provider's end. Did you try calling them?

Well, as someone who always backs up his information and stuff he wants to keep, I always just reinstall Windows when something goes wrong and I don't know how to fix it. That's my advice to you. I'm not sure what else could be the problem. It's probably something complex that I can't just give you the answer over the internet.

Hey Guys
Its been a long time since im back on these forums. Anyhoot i need your help. i got a new ipod touch and im trying to find an MKV to MP4 converter for the touch. I'm a big anime head (but an even bigger TMNT head ^^) and some of the fan subs i get come in MKV which i find toruble some and i wanna convert them into a n mp4 or other video format that my touch can take. MKV i find quite troublesome with the scripts for subs, audio and such. but if anyone can recommend me a conveter or maethod of converting while keeping the anime intact. Google has failed me on this. Thx in advance

MKV and MP4 are both just containers that hold video, audio, and subtitles in various formats, so it is most likely easy to convert between the two. I haven't tried any of these personally, but here are a few guides that might help.

Sooo.....need some help please.
I'm trying desperately to find an audio recording tool (freeware, shareware, I don't care) that I can use in Vista to record all the sound coming through the Sound Card. In XP, this would have been the "What U Hear" channel. Seems Microsoft has gotten in bed with the record labels and severely restricted the ability to record anything in Vista. Bastards. Anyway, is there any software solution that will let me record the sound coming through the sound card (such as Youtube videos), or am I screwed?

Vista's Sound Recorder gives you little to no options for recording, and saves everything in DRM friendly WMA format. I need something a little more liberating.
And just to clarify, I'm not using integrated sound. I'm using a Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio card and I can't access anything like "What U Hear" or "Stereo Mix".

I don't have any experience in sound recording, though I have experience in video recording. I'm sure a quick google search will find you something worthwhile.

This may sound weird get a cable like the one in the picture and connect it to your speaker out/audio out and connect it to your mic in. The record your mic in with windows recorder. You can also use nero 7's wave editor for this.
