Battlestar Galactica To Be Rebooted For NBC "Peacock" Streaming Service

Frak me, Battlestar Galactica is being rebooted, with Mr. Robot's Sam Esmail at the helm.

I seriously doubt they can top Ronald D Moore's interpretation.

Another reboot? Shouldn't they just pick one of the first two incarnations and make a soft reboot?

I've never seen any version of this show, but I love science-fiction and constantly hear it being praised. Maybe I should finally get on that.

Go for it, man. The reboot is excellent.

Looks like that might be happening

Oh jeeze. It is reportedly going to be all about "the politics of today."

Yes, but is Tricia Helfer involved? Asking the REAL questions here...

So this would be like the third iteration of this franchise, correct?

"The politics of today... In a completely different time period!"

So doing a little research (I've never watched either show) BSG takes place thousands of years in the past? And somehow also the future? In either case, why would the politics of today be relevant to such a distant time period?

I'm really only a fan of the original because it's fun and cheesy in a late 70's and early 80's kind of way. The original sorta feels like a Saturday morning cartoon but in live action.

None of the old cast will be in it.

The fourth, technically (counting Caprica) but it exists in the same universe as the last BSG.

My suspicion is that it's set on Earth, in our present or near future. The Cylons return, etc..

Michael Leslie has moved on to another project, leaving the series without a showrunner

Eh... what happened to Sam Esmail? I thought he was the showrunner?

https://collider.com/battlestar-gala...ail-interview/

Not a good sign when showrunners start jumping ship, though. Usually that means everything we've been told about a project up until that point might have gotten thrown out the window.

Tricia Helfer, man. That's what will right this sinking ship.

I've never seen anything BSG, what is worth checking out? The old show/movies or the new show, spin-offs? Are they all in continuity like star trek or just reboots?

The 2004 BSG is entirely it's own thing, separate from the classic series.

The 70s one is super-cheesy, I prefer it over the bleaker modern show because I grew up on it, but the latter is the one most would recommend watching.

I remember the original series. That series came out because of how big Star Wars was back in the 70s. They had one of the VFX creators work on the series too. The original series had kind of a Star Wars vibe with the ship designs and the Zylons were kind of like the Stormtroopers.

That and other articles are falsely painting this as a reboot. It isn't. They've over and over again said they've consulted with Ronald Moore and the overall idea is to make it at least cool to be in the same universe. Which makes it seem like it might be a new, weird thing. But maybe in a good way. Like maybe it's set now or 10-20 years from now and we suddenly have to deal with Cylons, a few years after the series finale.
