I think I was more perplexed at the choice of enemies in the game. Granted it had Shredder, Krang Bebop and Rocksteady; but the regular enemiws were mostly original. Then again, it was better than just facing rainbow coloured foot soldiers all the time like in the beat 'em up turtle games from that same era.
The game had a lot of good ideas on paper, but the execution could have been much better. I think if this game had been made a few years later it could have been a classic, but meh. |

Of course, the Japanese version has it's own bit of confusion; since the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles weren't a thing yet in Japan, they decided to change the name. It's called Geki Kame Ninja Den. So each game after that, which were actually called TMNT, are numbered one lower. TMNT 2: The Arcade Game is simply called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
