In other news, Christian Navarro of 13 Reasons Why is very bitter that he didn't get the role of Eric in the movie. His reaction is very similar to Jade Thirwall's when Naomi Scott got the role of Jasmine in the live-action Aladdin instead of her. Navarro has since deleted these posts.

If a person of color gets cast to play a role that's traditionally white, that's "progressive". "Let the best actor get the part, regardless of skin color!" they chirp in unison, oblivious to why race-flipping is problematic and offensive for its own laundry list of reasons. But if a white actor gets cast to play a traditionally-white role, that's "lazy", "racist", and whatever else. Clearly, white people don't know how to play white people. It simply isn't possible that, in this case, "the best possible actor for the role" could happen to be a white person. Clearly, it's a conspiracy.

Typical Millennial crybaby, oblivious to their own hypocrisy. Seeing a lot of 'em in entertainment nowadays.

I don't see what the problem is Ariel and Eric being an interracial couple. The live-action Lady and the Tramp movie made Jim Dear and Darling one too. Aunt Sarah was also changed to an African-American character. They are also being diverse by having a Spaniard, Javier Bardem, play King Triton. Hauer-King must've had what they were looking for in the character. I definitely seem him as Eric after watching two of his performances.

It seems that Ariel will also have more power in this adaptation according to Daveed Diggs, who is voicing Sebastian. Sounds like the transformationJasmine went through in the live-action Aladdin.

Some of the updates they’ve done to the story are really important in terms of giving some more power back to Ariel. It’s fun to work on something that’s so intentional in the idea of ‘If we’re going to make this now, we’re not going to leave this alone as a time capsule.’ Let’s make it for now.

Filming hasn't started yet because of the current situation the world is in, but Alan Menken says that all of the songs have been recorded including four new ones. Prince Eric is indeed getting a newly written solo song for this movie.

Recently Halle Bailey gave an update on the film. Even though production has halted, she is still blessed to be a part of it.

"I was in London at the beginning of the year about to start filming and of course this pandemic has forced everybody to slow down”, Halle stated when asked about the status of the film. “I’m so very excited for when we start back again and it’s really come together. I just feel honored every day to think about it or even talk about it, I’m like what the heck, that’s really happening?” As for casting changes, Halle confirms there isn’t going to be any recasts, “The cast are beautiful humans inside and out and everybody is already like a family.”
