What would a Ninja Turtles Telltale game be like.

Telltale games is a company that does video games and a number of them have a choose your own adventure type spin on them. Some of the more known ones they have are for the "Walking Dead" "Game of Thrones" and "Guardians of the Galaxy"

What do you imagine an interactive Ninja Turtles Telltale game would be like. Obviously, you would be playing as Leonardo as he is the leader of the team, though they could have an algorithm that could have the same story it just plays out differently depending on what character you are using as the POV character.

Or since these games are episodic, one episode would systematically control the character the story centers around, or have the option to play as a turtle that isn't Leo.

Much of the time every choice or reaction you make will have a different outcome. For example say you have a moment where you are going on a mission and your character can only have one of his companions go with him, the outcome for these missions will differ depending on which character you have with you, so a mission with Raph would have different results then say a mission with Mikey.

For example, the first episode of the Game of Thrones Telltale Game is set during the "Red Wedding" and one of the characters you are able to play certain parts of the story with has to go get wine for their group with another squire. Your character then notices something is going on and you have the choice in telling that squire to escape with you or just leaving him to die. If you leave him to die, the knight that squire is sworn to asks you about him and is upset with you for saving your own skin.

Or you say you have a moment where you are talking with Splinter and you have a choice of what to say in response, and depending on what you say Splinter would talk proudly too you, or warn you about how arrogance leads to a tragic fall.

And like most Telltale Games you will have options where what you choose has no effect on the outcome because it happens regardless.

Shouldn't this be in the (TMNT) Video Game Discussion section?

I put it here because it was sort of general towards TMNT itself, but your right I'll repost it in the video game section. Though the telltale games are kinda like Choose your own adventure tv shows so it could fit here.

It would be a blank screen, because TellTale went out of business. While screwing over their entire staff quite horribly, to boot.

Not sure if you'd heard. Anyways, possibly a neat idea, but we'll certainly never see it come to life.

A lot of talking with minimal yet frustrating action scenes, kinda stilted and stiff animation and none of your choices matter. But still better than all of the Life is Strange games.

Lots to unpack there, certainly.

I quite enjoy Life Is Strange, as well as all of the TellTale games I've played. I've never found any of them frustrating, outside of story choices I absolutely wouldn't agree with, but y'know. "They're telling me the story, I'm not telling them the story", and all that. Gameplay-wise, I think they're fine. They won't get your pulse up, but they're fun.

Such a shame, too. Like a week before that, I was really enjoying the second Batman game that they did and telling my buddy how much I like their games in general. Then BAM. Too bad.

Really wanted a sequel to the Game of Thrones one, too. That was pretty neat. Sigh.

A Telltale game?

- Stay and Fight

- Run away

- Surrender

Choice makes little difference. That's Telltale in a nutshell.

Still fun, oh well. Stories are good, even when I don't agree with the choices made by the storytellers.

That's a big deal, to me. Like the Batman ones; I had huge problems with the story but was completely willing to ignore them because I had so much fun playing the game. So they must've done something good.

I'll miss 'em.

Do you not agree there is a problem when I can just watch a letsplay on YouTube as a movie and I get the same experience as just playing? To be fair games like Life is Strange has the exact same issues as well, not taking into account games which have a bit of gameplay but are mostly QTEs like the 2013 Tomb Raider and The Last of Us. People love those games, I just don't see the point. Modern triple A gaming eh?

I don't agree, because it's not the same. The outcomes may ultimately not vary by much and "only" leave you with two main choices by the time the whole shebang is over with, but you yourself are the one who directs the journey. That's the entire point of those games. They're not supposed to be competition for CoD or Assassin's Creed, they're an evolution of old-fashioned adventure games with more emphasis on storytelling than puzzle-solving, is all.

If you're only playing to "see what happens", then maybe a YouTube video will suffice, but that also stands true for just about every game. I personally prefer to have more agency than simply observing.

Again, back to the Batman game(s). It was inevitable that John Doe was going to become the Joker, but it was a lot of fun creating the entire dynamic between him and Bruce (and Batman) along the way. I chose to try and play it as Bruce doing his best to keep him "straight" and try to make him a better person. Did I think it was going to "matter" in the end? Of course not, I just wanted to explore how it would play out if I chose that path. Obviously if I had Bruce shun him and treat him poorly he still would have been the Joker anyway, but the entire setup would have been different. I ultimately didn't like the story, but I loved how they told it. It was a very creative twist on the usual Batman mythos. Definitely shouldn't be canon anywhere, but they made some bold choices and explored them very well. "Not MY Batman" but definitely one of the better "Elseworlds" stories. I got what I wanted from those games, no regrets.

I feel like people get too hung up on, "All the little choices along the way are 'meaningless', because in the end you only get One Big Choice to make", but those "meaningless" little choices are called "playing the game". The ending itself isn't always the point of the experience.

Likewise, I could easily say that the FW TMNT cartoon is "pointless", because there's zero stakes, and everything gets "reset" every episode back to where things started from, with the later seasons being an obvious exception. One could easily say, from their point of view, "I just don't see the point; every week it's the same thing, you've seen one episode you've seen them all." But that's silly; it's not "pointless" just because there's rarely any "real change" or serialized storytelling, that's not the kind of show it was. It was an episodic action/comedy that was meant to tell fun stories in small doses, and it achieved that goal. By that standard, it's a "good" show. I personally prefer more serialized storytelling, so those are shows I prefer to watch, but it doesn't mean that the FW TMNT cartoon was any less good at being exactly the show it was trying to be.

Same thing with Telltale games. They get judged a lot for being different than something they're not even trying to be, which I find unfair. They're "interactive Choose-Your-Own Adventure books", and that's perfectly fine, with me. They fit in very neatly whenever I get done with whichever 100-hour epic and need a palate cleanser. Definitely not among my favorite games of all time but I've yet to play one I didn't have fun with. By definition, they draw you much deeper into their stories and create a much greater feeling of "ownership" of the story than most other games can provide. Sure, that comes at the cost of more involved gameplay, but you can't be great at everything.

I'unno, there's room for everything, as far as I'm concerned. I've been playing nothing but Metal Gear games for six months, every single day, so one of those Telltale joints might be just the thing I need to "reset" myself when I'm ready to move on. They're a nice weekend "break" in between "big" games; nothing wrong with that.

For me Telltale's output since 2011 feels like watching a movie. Some might find the storytelling engrossing but if I'm paying full price for one of those games I want to feel like I'm getting some gameplay.

I do find it ironic that for years FMV games have been looked down upon yet today a typical game like a Tex Murphy one still has more gameplay than a visual novel, a walking simulator or Telltale game. How times have changed.
