We have now reached a point in time when "Bring me the s(S)witch" has a totally different meaning in terms of discipline

Belts, hangars, cooking spoons (wooden or plastic, depending on how many of each had been broken over my back)... there was a 5-foot wooden switch at one point, until I swiped it out of their closet while they weren't home, broke it into pieces and threw them in the creek behind our house.

At a certain point they just started using fists. Easier/cheaper, I guess. Which is when I got to the point where I'd have to knock either one of them out the second I saw a hand raised. And that's pretty much where it stayed until the end.

Ain't life grand? "Family" is the best.

Some are better better than others, of course. The majority of mine is great. Just that ONE individual who can go jump in front of a train. On top of a cliff. Over a bay full of sharks.

Sadly, most of mine felt that it was appropriate to try and control me through violence. Answering the phone for a bill collector was a beating. Hanging up on a drug dealer was a beating. Taking too long to "get around to" cleaning my room was a beating, with the "Bonus" of my mother completely trashing my room and breaking a bunch of my stuff, with the addendum of "NOW you get to clean THAT mess up, too!" This carried on for quite a few years.

At some point I made it very clear that the next hand that was raised to me, I would do my best to break. It never got that far but again, knockouts/choke-outs were common. If you raise your hand to me, I genuinely don't care who you are, I will absolutely try and end your life unless someone intervenes.

"Oddly" enough, ever since both my parents have been dead, I haven't had to get in any fistfights. Staying away from the rest of my family definitely helps.

I'm actually very mellow by general nature, but I essentially have zero fuse due to my upbringing. When threatened with violence, I go from Zero to "Say your prayers" pretty quick. But I feel that's fairly understandable, all things considered.

Yeah, I'm that way too at least where that one person is concerned. Spent way too many years locking bathroom doors and only dressing when I was sure they were not in the house, among other things. Also became a virtual champion at "hide and seek" due to needing to avoid that person for one reason or another, or spending entire days alone in my room just to avoid contact with them. Or having stuff broken, or arms nearly pulled out of socket or broken, or....

But I love the rest of my family to death. Out of both mom's and HIS sides, he's the ONLY one who is mentally unhinhed or whatever. But y'know, theres one in EVERY family tree....

Of course, there's also the option of "Bring me the Switch's...charger"

Watch in horror as your device's battery life depletes and then you can't play for the x amount of days you've lost privileges.

With the threat of bad weather coming, including ice, and the debate with my mother that ice does not care what you drive, even if you have 4-wheel drive, it got me wondering...
Spoiler:
Would the biggest dump trucks in the world also be susceptible to it?

I imagine thick ice would be a problem, but how thin is still an issue for them...? Would a thin layer that can send cars spinning be crushed and broken under this truck's weight or would it be just as at risk of losing it?

2/13 -- You know you work for a card store when... ...you cut yourself (no surprise) and then the wound ends up "decorated" with matching red glitter.

'Aaay Logan's Run is on Netflix...

A movie I only wanted to see because Michael York was the star.

Yeah, those sets look like Dallas in the 80's lol .

(It's also going to be weird seeing Jenny Aguter young and fresh and...eventually baring it all...after watching her play a nun for the last few years)

Ooh! Great movie! I have that one, it is a "classic" sci-fi flick. And pretty good social commentary on aging and population control, as well as complacency and stagnation from technological advancement.

There were some POCs, though, if memory serves.

Eating soup and suddenly realize my hand still smells like the scratch-n-sniff dots in a cute Half Shell TMNT book I saw and bought from the grocery store's bargain bin the other day and just finally flipped through. Definitely some... interesting...scents in that book.

I've had "Sweet dreams are made of peas" looping in my head all day and I don't know what to make of it

Now it's a leaf-footed bug... Pretty sure that's not what I saw the other night, quite certain that was a large hornet, which luckily hasn't shown up again. (And as far as I'm concerned she can crawl back into whatever nook or cranny she came out of and go back to sleep until spring. )

Can't say I've seen one of these beetles show up indoors this time of year either before though. Been hearing something now and then the past few days and this must be the culprit. Initially thought it was one of the darn stink bugs that commonly do come indoors (albeit probably a cousin), but upon further inspection realized he/she is larger and, best of all, not nearly as noisy and minding its own business. This one I can put up with... Just wish it was warmer out, I'd feel bad throwing it out into the cold so I guess we're roommates for the time being.

My day:

Either I've never felt this awful before in my life, or it's been long enough that I forgot.

Unless he was a little mixed up, I met an old guy today while working who was looking for birthday cards for great-great granddaughters. We usually carry a few for great grandchildren... but great-great? Given that those aren't normally generations that meet, they must have kids very young in his family. And this kid was already going to be turning 12.

I'm sorry that you had a terrible day, Utrom.

-------

I hope that I find a comfortable, but ultimately affordable, pillow someday.

The pillow that I do have is too small and stiff. It's getting harder and harder for me to sleep.

It's been a fvcking hellish week. Yesterday was one crash after another, and I slept most of today save for a little bit of the evening with a childhood friend who offered to have dinner with me (and a little bit of time wandering around Jo Ann's).
