Not apples to apples at all. Obi-Wan (who keep in mind had been through a LOT more than Luke in TLJ at this point) jumped at the chance to help and go off-world when Leia sent him the message via R2-D2. Even while knocking on death's door, Yoda was immediately willing to train Luke (trouble is, Luke failed his first test and Obi-Wan's ghost had to convince Yoda to give him a shot anyway).

Luke in TLJ is just like, "No, no, no! I'm not training you and I'm not going ANYWHERE and THAT'S THAT!" He only grudgingly is like, "OK, I'll sort of train you a little bit... but not with a lightsaber, you've got to do that yourself."

And in regard to that "46 minute cut that cuts all the women out"... that has to be a FAKE thing. How would a fan even cut such a cut together? The movie isn't available yet to download or even pirate to be able to have footage to edit, unless this 46 minute cut is from the horrific quality theater cams that are probably on Pirate Bay or whatever.

Double-checked the torrents that are out there. It's definitely only available in horrible quality theater cam so far (i.e., versions of people sitting in the theater recording the whole movie poorly with their smartphone or camcorder). We're still probably a couple of months away from it popping up with Korean hard-coded subs before the official release.

I'm not sure what the odds were for Luke when things went south but for Yoda and Obi Wan, the odds were against them by the time they realised what was happening, so far as fighting back went.

There had to be another challenge or defeat to carry on the story (yes I know everyone gets that) but on the other side of that I can also see that after the triumph in Jedi we skip a lot of years and see... another Jedi Master turned into a sad old hermit after defeat... I suppose it depends on the view point you take, had they done the movies earlier when the original cast were a bit younger how different might it have been?

Also that "no women cut" was not made because of people hating women, it was made to get a rise out of feminists and the like and they took the bait. Even if it were real it wouldn't be any more stupid than the "no jar jar" cuts or the "I edited all the prequels into one 3 hour movie" or all those retarded edits that only sheep nerds keep blabbering about.

The only edit I can get behind on not being some "greater than thou" popularity contest edit is the despecialized edition, which at least is trying to re-create something that exists only in good quality.

I really don't have any problem, on principle, with Luke being a hermit like Yoda or Obi-Wan. But it's got to be for the right reasons.

On the run from a galactic-wide purge of all Jedis while you hide on a planet watching after the son of your padawan and waiting for a chance to help out a Rebellion (Obi-Wan)? That's valid.

On the run from a galactic-wide purge of all Jedis while you hide on a planet learning more about the Force while also waiting to help out anyone in need if/when a Rebellion gets going (Yoda)? That's valid.

During peacetime and not on the run from anybody or anything, just hiding on a planet upset that your little Jedi school failed when you thought about killing your Dark Side-leaning nephew for a split second before not even thinking that anymore (Luke)? Doesn't seem valid at all, at least not in terms of him not being willing to help anyone or leaving the planet to help. Especially with what was going on with the First Order, with Han, and the New Republic getting 5 planets destroyed.

I mean, look at Obi-Wan... by the time Alderaan was destroyed by the Empire, Obi-Wan was already on his way to join the Rebel Alliance and help out. By the time Rey is begging Luke for help, FIVE planets have already been destroyed by the First Order... and he STILL says no. That doesn't compute.

And the sad part is there really IS no change. everything is STILL the same status quo it was in the last movie. it's just more smoke screen from the people who like bad movies or nu movies and want them to seem special, when they really are just retreading stuff that's been done better elsewhere.

As for the 'no women' cut....It had to be done as the ultimate trolling tactic. a way to fight back from the onslaught from the other side. and it worked...because it triggered all the same old responses and insults..
