So is this the end of Disney stuff on Netflix now?

Considering how long ago this topic originally came up I thought maybe some kind of deal remained, since at least some Disney has seemed to remain on Netflix, but now that they've started the ad for the streaming service...

Disney really has some funny ideas about how to market Disney+ on social media...

Disney+ set to censor its stock of movies on it. Looks like "Splash" is the first, or at least the first people have noticed:

Sucks, we'll never see many "kid" friendly mature stuff there, simpsons will be further edited etc. We will never see official merchandise or anything ever again of slave leia or twilek stuff in the EU in the future anymore either. Wolverine has begun to get his cigarette's edited out of reprints of older Marvel material, so not even future stuff but old stuff is not immune to sanitizing their franchises.

So you're telling me the exhibits in my Slave Leia Basement Museum just became MORE valuable?

Disney+ just put out a Pixar short about a gay kid coming out to this parents.

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/05/25/e...rnd/index.html

Perfect material for the little ones to see. This is OK, but let's censor Darryl Hannah in "Splash"?

To be fair, they've been promising for a while now that this sort of thing was coming, and would be a prominent part of their brand going forward.

I kinda see both sides of it. I get why they're trying to encourage acceptance and help young people who are struggling with their identity or whatever. But just about every parent I know in Real Life is one of the "MY kid ain't gonna be allowed to watch stuff like that" type. That's still the vast majority of parents. So on a business level, it's questionable, even if there's a nobility to it.

I'm straight, but although I didn't hit puberty until 10 I "awakened" early and already had a fascination and semi-understanding of boobs and girls and sex by age 5 (which apparently happens a lot in my family, so maybe it's genetic). So I can't in good faith say that there's a specific age when it's "appropriate" to expose kids to such material. By the time I was 10 and my parents gave me "The Talk", it was incredibly redundant because I'd already learned everything from books and porn. I think I was like, 7 or 8 the first time I saw two chicks go down on each other, in graphic uncensored detail. So by the time I even knew the basic mechanics of sex, I was fully aware that some people were gay and what that entailed.

So I don't know. I think it's different for every individual as to what's "appropriate" and what they can handle. I don't think stuff like this can "warp" a kid - in my case, all that happened was I grew up to be a huge pervert, but that was likely gonna happen anyway - BUT I have always questioned whether stuff like this is the right or best way to broach the subject at all. One of the things about Disney that always allowed them to have such broad appeal was because they were kind of apolitical. Their content was a bit "safe" and sterilized but there was nothing that anyone could object to no matter how liberal or conservative they were, they were "just" well-executed children's entertainment. This kind of thing though is dramatically off-putting to at least half of their audience so it kind of stands out to me as a very questionable business move.

I don't really care that they're putting out stuff like that... I care that they're putting out stuff like that while at the same time doing the censorship of far, far less dubious things.

Like even this, now. They're now digitally blurring out cleavage shots from stuff like "Wizards of Waverly Place." Basically... stuff that aired on the Disney Channel is too risque for Disney+?

Yeah that is a ridiculous double-standard, I agree. Especially on a paid subscription service. Such "babysitting" goes against the entire point of keeping content behind a paywall in the first place. Why should anyone pay money for censorship? That's terrible.

I sincerely don't understand how "back in the day" sex and nudity was pretty much 90% of people's entertainment, and we still ended up where we are NOW. We have thousands of years worth of statues and paintings and drawings and whatever else, which should conclusively prove that 1. People are obsessed with sex and nudity as a rule, 2. That's Perfectly Fine, and 3. Growing up surrounded by sex and nudity can ONLY make you a better, more enlightened person, and not the opposite.

Yet now we're supposedly so "advanced", but we have to "protect" people from cleavage. Not even NIPPLES, but cleavage?

I plain don't trust anyone who's afraid of tits. Tits are one of the best things about being alive. They're majestic. There's a direct correlation between the point where we became collectively "afraid" of tits, and how stupid everyone and everything is nowadays.

You're right. It's stupid that kids can see stuff about gay relationships but they can't see cleavage. Y'know how many kids walk in on their parents having sex at least once in their lifetime? Statistically, a lot. I think cleavage is the least of their problems.

Dumb.

But the episode was censored when it aired. Disney+ didn't change everything.

The article is saying it was reported that it wasn't censored when it aired.

Well the replies to the tweet it uses as a source shows it was censored as early as 2009.

But WHY on Earth would Disney even hire an actress with such spectacular cans in the first place if they were just gonna censor them later, thus defeating the entire purpose? They could've hired some Kristen Stewart lookalike and saved themselves the trouble.

My niece used to love "Wizards of Waverly Place" so I had to see it a lot back then. Not a terrible show but good ol' Mrs. Russo sure made it a lot more fun to watch, that's for sure.

To obstruct hooters like that in any way should be a felony. She shouldn't even be allowed to wear a shirt, it's a crime against nature. Nobody buys a Ferrari to keep it in the garage under a goddamn tarp.

Things really went to sh*t when the hyper-sensitives took over.

My wife suspects it's because a bunch of heavyset and unattractive women are making all of Disney's decisions now and that they're incredibly insecure, thus things like this and "No More Slave Leia", and so on. She said it in much nastier terms, but she does have a vagina so maybe she's onto something.

IDK, the last few years it feels there's been movements or something where women are trying so hard to make men go out with heavier set women and almost feel shamed for wanting to go for a hot fit babe instead.

Kinda like the fat acceptance movement, rather than try to solve the problem let's pretend it isn't there, glorify it and shame whoever dares question it.

Fun Fact that woman in question was also the voice of Hawkgirl in the Justice League Cartoons and yes she is hot

My brother got Disney+ a few days ago for the whole family. After putting Spider-Man 81, Amazing Friends, Spider-Man 95, 90s X-men and Darkwing Duck on my wishlist, I basically have nothing more that I'd want to watch.

Disney in the UK are getting rid of all the Disney Channels and moving everything to Disney Plus.

https://www.ladbible.com/entertainme...8hGYos_3i5lLWQ

Even though I haven't watched any of the Disney channels in years, it's still kinda sad that there going. I remember when they first aired in the UK, Late 1995 and Gargoyles was one of the 1st shows airing on it.

Wow, just straight up getting rid of the channels eh? That's definitely their long term hope but I wasn't expecting to see it happen so soon.

Anyway for 69 a year I think D+ is amazing value if you have 1 or more kids. They could watch pretty much nothing other than D+ and have plenty of content for many many years. It's taking a while for the original programs I'm most interested in to roll out, but so far I've loved Mandalorian and some of the documentary series they launched

They're doing monthly meetings with "groups" to see what movies should be slapped with what warnings.
