Weird casting. Dude looks more like Superman instead of Jimmy Olsen.

I was hoping for an Asian Jimmy but Mechad is cute enough to suit me.
As for Jimmy being Kara's lois...um...well it's a bit of a love triangle as Winslow Schott/Toyman has a thing for her. Winslow is her neighbor and they all work for Cat Grant.

Jimmy and Toyman both like Kara who is totally oblivious to it all.

So apparently, the first villain Supergirl is going to fight is a guy called "Lumberjack", whose ONLY appearance in the comics was in a Wonder Woman issue from 1980. Seriously: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansit...news/?a=114609
So out of all the countless villains that have fought Supergirl in the past, the first person they decide to make her go against is some guy who no one has even heard of, or who isn't even a major character. Talk about lame.

Probably because they want to avoid using Superman's rogue gallery, at least at first.

Supergirl also has a really sh*tty rogues gallery of her own once you take out all the Superman villains. I couldn't even think of any of her enemies off the top of my head, I had to check Wikipedia, and even then I only recognized like, three names: Reactron, Buzz, from Peter David's run (which is DEFINITELY the best version of Supergirl that's ever been or ever will be presented), and Superwoman.
Buzz is more or less a literal demon from hell, and Superwoman was Lois Lane's sister Lucy given artificial superpowers by her father so she could work as an anti-Kryptonian agent for the U.S. gov't. I doubt this show is going to want to explore either of those backstories. So that leaves Reactron, a soldier powered by radiation and Gold Kryptonite. I guess that could work. Supergirl has always worked better as an idea than as an actual character. Nobody but David ever explored her in any significant way past simply being "Superman With Breasts", and to do that, he essentially created a completely different character with completely different powers than the traditionally-known "Superman's Cousin " version. Ironically, it was the only time the character was ever even moderately interesting, but it was scrapped for low sales and they went back to the Kara Zor-El version, only "modernized" by being a whiny, insecure, unlikable brat. Hopefully they won't borrow too much from THAT version for the show. Every time the character gets any momentum going, the book gets cancelled for not selling. Because of that, they've never really given her much in the way of interesting villains. That definitely gives the people behind the show room to try and create their own, but then you have the risk of whether or not comics fans will stay engaged without a steady flow of villains that they recognize. Basically, the strongest (and oddly enough, recurring) plotline in most Supergirl comics has historically been whether or not she was ever going to f*ck her magic horse. That's seriously been a bigger part of her story than who she ever fought. Let's hope the show doesn't recycle THAT storyline.

You just said the magic words, my friend- Peter David. Damn, I didn't even remember he'd ever done her (wait, that sounded wrong) uh, book, but now I may have to find a few issues of that run, just because I LOVE everything else I've seen of his. Might actually find myself liking a DC character again! As for the show.... Yeah, I don't see this working any better than the movie did.

He did the entire run of Vol. 4 from 1996 to 2003, 81 issues.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supergirl_(Linda_Danvers) Full disclosure: The entire run has a TON of very literal God/Devil - Heaven/Hell stuff in it (several of the villains are literally Hell's demons, while Supergirl herself for part of the run is an Earth-Born Angel of Fire), which may be off-putting to some, but as an open-minded pretty-much-atheist (although who knows?) who simply enjoys well-written super-hero fiction, I thought it was f***ing AMAZING. Especially the powerful, recurrent themes of faith, family, struggling to find one's own identity, failure to live up to ideals, and most prominently, redemption. And it's not preachy or anything, not in the least. Even if someone is a non-believer, that should NOT put anyone off from reading this series. There has never been a better version of Supergirl as her own fully-formed character, and probably never will be. The entire thing is one long, fluid story, so just a few issues won't make any sense, you totally have to read the entire thing from beginning to end. The ending is kind of abrupt due to it being cancelled out of nowhere, but even the final arc could bring a tear to a glass eye. HIGHEST possible recommendation. Seriously.

Sounds interesting, may have to check it out. And I've never had a problem with those kinds of themes, which is kinda ironic, seeing that I'm totally pagan. I love that stuff, actually, especially when it's not preachy. Heavy theological and philosophical material that has layers of depth or just plain makes you think is great, no matter what the source material. I loved Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series for much the same reason- good and evil, heaven and hell, morality, redemption, the meaning/purpose/definition of sin, the works. And God became a woman..... (spoiler alert!!) Sorry, had to throw that in there.

Just reading that Wikipedia article I linked to has me drooling to get my comics out of storage and do a marathon run of the entire series again.
Truth? I have never NOT cried while reading the last issue. Seriously.

I'm not asking for villians on the same level of Braniac or Darkseid to appear in the first episode, but someone like Parasite or Livewire would have been much better.

Well here's something... Callista Flockhart has been cast as Cat Grant! I was expecting somebody with a little more up front, instead it's somebody with less!
http://www.kryptonsite.com/news/cali...-as-cat-grant/ Also, Laura Benanti has been cast as Kara's mom, Alura. This is a recurring role as Alura will be Kara's guiding ghost thing like Jor El has been at times with Clark. I like this idea as her parents have mostly been essentially background noise in the past. http://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/41...ptonian-mother

Apparantly casting calls have gone out now for somebody to play Superman (it'll probably be just a cameo but still). Also the casting calls are looking for twins (Wonder Twins?!).
