It's not just a chosen letter. I'm not quite sure where it came from back then, though years ago I'd gotten the impression, having read things online (or magazines?) long ago, that it wasn't a positive connotation. That we were considered kind of a 'nothing' generation... A "lost" generation; throwaways; crossed out/X'd out in a sense, I guess, or lack of much identity.

Supposedly...

The name "Generation X" comes from a novel by Douglas Coupland, "Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture," published in 1991.

Can't copy past any text, but also saw this related bit...

edit: Apparently "Xennials" is also a name of those of us born late 70s to early 80s; us babies at the tail end of Gen X or the senior members of Millennials that don't 100% relate to the rest of our designated group.

I’m part of the Xennials. I finally fit in someplace!

I remember playing Oregon trail, house phones and Napster.

The Oregon Trail... best early computer game ever. Was a good day at school when you could just spend a whole class playing that. (Last time I found and played it online I had the Turtles in my party. So funny.)

Though never did Napster. Still have a house phone.

People who use "woke" unironically, need to rethink their lives.

Other than that, labels, labels and more labels. Basically a lot of meaningless water and generalizations, some which probably can be true to US, but not the rest of the world.
But since, such articles don't give a **** about the rest of the world, therefore, they might pretend, that it goes for the whole planet.

Well... I'm sure anyone is free to submit the equivalent generational breakdown for any other country and how it varies for that particular culture...

I hadn't noticed "woke" in the title. What's that, anyway? I've been seeing that word more and more lately.

...so it means being aware of current affairs and knowing what's really going one? Shouldn't that be, being awake? Since we tell unaware people to open their eyes?

So basically, "woke" sounds like two different things at once, though not necessarily coinciding.

* Clueless youth who think they're the first to notice things.
* A new pending generation of conspiracy theorists.

I think "Woke" is supposed to be the equivalent of Neo being told the truth about The Matrix and his mind being blown.

Or something. It's stupid.

So it's like the red pill and blue pill meme thing?

Or, a word a marginalized group uses to remind itself to stay ever vigilant in an increasingly hostile world.

But you know, six of one/half dozen of the other.

Shame those Incel boys went and ruined the term Red-Pill.

There seems to be two usages for red pill:

a) Guys referring to women and pick-up artistry. As in "all women are hoes!"
b) People who believe certain races are more prone to violent crime than others(blacks, arabs, etc). And I assume they tend to be anti homosexuality as well.

It's internet-lefties speak for people who have supposedly just noticed their white privilege and social injustices and started to experience tremendous white guilt and fight for SOCIAL JUSTICE (by screaming in internet).
Mostly used to pat themselves on the shoulder and show how they are morally superior to others, who they sometimes call "sheeple".

Increasingly? Hahaha.

But basically this:

I think of “woke” as meaning someone that is extremely aware of sociopolitical issues to the extent that the person becomes an activist or joins in with protests.

Like in this video clip from Grown-ish Zoey is becoming “hella woke.”

Good show, but I prefer it's predecessor.

I’ve watched every episode of both series. Grow-ish would be better if Dre had more appearances. Black-ish has been losing my interest lately with the divorce arc.

ACK! I'm behind! I didn't know about a divorce arc.
LA LA LA I'M NOT LISTENING.

I quite like Grownish, if for no other reason than getting the chance to see Zoe as more than the cooler-than-thou girl she is on Blackish. Grownish Zoe gets to be as ridiculous as the rest of her family.

But yeah...more crossover would be delightful.

I don’t think I spoiled anything, I didn’t say if they do or don’t. I’ll stop talking bout it now.

NO no no, it's fine!
You're good.

It's my own fault for being so behind.

Well, this thread wasn't a total loss. It made me go look up the meaning for "incel."

Yup. That's a pretty accurate term for some people out there.
