Angles are considerably easier to animate consistently than curves, so that's probably the main reason. Especially since the budget for the first few seasons was fairly high for a Saturday morning kid's show.

This thread's too awesome to go idle so to contribute:
Still trying to find a copy of #1 (anybody?), but I scanned #2 & 3 of the old cereal mini-comics-- I knew there was a reason I had this flickr account! Mini-comic #2: http://www.flickr.com/photos/4930978...7625811127045/ Mini-comic #3: http://www.flickr.com/photos/4930978...7625936731450/ the Turtles! Casey Jones! Man Ray! Wingnut! Fly Baxter?! I forgot how great these were. It reads like a mash-up of the Archie series, the cartoon, and the toy line. Casey Jones must've made the cut based on the first movie... Shredder in a giant Mouser robot. Wingnut as a henchman. ...and is this the only appearance of the Mutant Fly Baxter Stockman in a comic book? Such a cool design. Man, I really want to add #1 for the set. Last edited by wilddiverse; 01-30-2011 at 04:20 AM. |

I think I asked if anyone had the cereal comics a few pages back. Thanks for uploading the last two of em. Good luck finding the first one. |

Comic Relief Comic
And now the magic of the internet and some editing gives us...
The TMNT's appearance in Fleetway's 1991 benefit jam book for Comic Relief: Written by some punk named Neil Gaiman. |

I googled my way to a blog where someone shared them at a decent resolution, then did the same for the cover-- a bit of editing and color adjusting later, I'm pleased with the results.
The comic's bizarro rare and highly collectible for about 8000 different reasons. See the credits page: There was some talk of re-releasing it as a PDF toward the end of last year, but the sheer number of trademark holders they'd need to have sign off for use of property rights is likely to make that a long, long wait. |

Thanks for posting that Fleetway Comic Relief story, wilddiverse! I had only seen it previously in tiny resolution. I appreciate being able to read the whole thing!

No problem, thanks for all the UK Hero Turtles and manga stuff you've put out there-- I just discovered that Fly Baxter *has* appeared in comics besides the cereal minis!
