Thor could've been a trilogy of mythology-based epics, but nah. We got Guardians-Lite instead.

I agree; DC's pantheon can still be fun without losing their iconic status or devolving into Adam West style camp. Putting these kinds of characters in situations other than the usual "fight the big bad, save the city/world" helps define who they are as people.

I think there was a Wonder Woman storyline in the 1990s where she was a freedom-fighting space pirate for a short time.

Agreed. Still hoping Thor 3 will be better, though...

I think anything is better than Whor 2 by default.

I'm still disappointed in that movie. Christopher Eccleston is a great actor, but they didn't use him as anything more than a paperweight...

Did he even have lines in that movie? I legit can't remember a thing about it except the giant superweapon-of-the-week thing crashing into washington.

Yeah. I think they were all in Elvish, too.

Subtitles FTW!

I'd love to see the original version of this movie before they decided to cut a bunch of stuff just to get more screentime for Loki.

As much as I was entertained by Thor 3, Eccleston was criminally underused. As was Lee Pace in the first Guardians movie.

I think it's just easy for me to not expect much from Thor, because I could not possibly have cared less about his comic book if I tried.

Ronan wasn't quite as bad for me as Eccleston's character. But yeah, Lee Pace is another great actor.

Definitely, definitely many large scenes were removed with him. Eccleston was not happy with what they did with his role in post.

Yep.
At that point in the MCU, it was still conceivable that a villain might get lots of screentime and development.

What might have been...

Early impressions are out and...I dunno. I'm tired of the best praise people have for these movies being "they're hilarious!" Marvel movies being made for hyucks is annoying and makes them all feel samey.

The Guardians of the Galaxy formula worked and now every movie has to be like Guardians. I'm sure I'll like it well enough but this will be another missed opportunity to do something sincere with the Thor mythos.

I quite agree. Making Ragnorak a comedy just feels so weird. It's supposed to be the end of all things, right? Doom, destruction, maybe even a little despair?

But none of those rhyme with, 'FUN!'

LOL, I actually just watched that movie recently for the first time ever....one of the most bizarre movies I've ever seen. Seeing an early/young Jim Carrey before he became famous was surreal as well, especially since he had blonde hair in the movie.

Also Geena Davis in her bikini, jesus christ. I can see how she got so many lead roles in Thelma and Louise, Beetlejuice, Change Up with Bill Murray, and The Long Kiss Goodnight with Samuel L. Jackson after that.
