Gareth Edwards just left the project. I bet Legendary is pretty pissed since they delayed this movie so he could do Rogue One.

Godzilla 2 to be directed by Michael Dougherty, who previously directed Krampus and Trick 'r Treat.

I'm a little more excited for the American Godzilla movies after watching Shin Godzilla which at first it actually made me hate the 2014 film but now that Shin/Resurgence gave me the Godzilla movie I wanted I'm fine with the Legendary one doing crazy sh-t that makes no sense like Kong and an american King Ghidorah.

I'm still pissed to what they did to Skull Island however, this was supposed to be a prequel to the awesome Jackson movie and deal with the island mainly with Kong taking a very small role and exploring that island would've been awesome but for the sake of the crossover it's not Skull Island in name only as it was changed to have Kong be the focus of the film and made him to be gigantic so he would fit in the cinematic universe. The movie doesn't even look that bad but it could've been a dream movie for me and now it'll be a lot more generic, and god does Samuel L Jackson have to be in everything?

Kong: Skull Island is not a prequel to Peter Jackson's King Kong, though it is a prequel to the current "giant monsterverse".

It was going to be a prequel to Jackson's Kong until the "monsterverse" plans changed the movie at the last minute.

Can't find much online anymore since most links are about the current version Kong:Skull Island but mostly from memory originally Universal Picture would be distributing and it was only going to be called Skull Island and it would take place years before the Kong story we all know and he would've barely appeared as it was going to be more of a "explore the island" story. Jackson suggested the director and this was going to be released in 2016 even Universal Studios updated the Kong ride to have Jackson's Kong and we even got a Teaser before Jurassic World got a teaser but then the whole WB wants a crossover and Legendary changed things up to please WB and left Universal out in the cold. It would've been an awesome movie, this one looks ok but nowhere near the potential and all for a crossover "cinematic universe" copycat..

Sounds dreadfully boring. I almost fell asleep during all the "explore the island" stuff in Jackson's King Kong... I can't fathom another trip to just that.

I can't wait to see Shin Godzilla since Funimation announced they have the NA rights to it

Sweeeeet. That's a busy cast, though! Hope there's time for them all to shine over the human melodrama.

Here's the plot synopsis
Quote:
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Mothra is usually like, a "good" monster, right? Hopefully that's the case with this joint, too.

I bet the movie will have Godzilla fighting Rodan and Mothra, but then all 3 team up to fight King Ghidorah in the 3rd act.
