That's Princess fairy tales (love at first sight etc) I was watching The Little Mermaid last night with my daughter and thinking about her age too. Wasn't Aroura 16 also. Different times though, 16 in older times (by which I mean before TLM in the 80s ) is not the same as now.

I heard this movie was going to be based on the original story and not the movie (this was likely mentioned already, sorry should have read all the thread first)

In the original Little Mermaid fairy tale, Ariel dies and turns to foam as the prince goes off. That would be too depressing an ending for a Disney live-action adaption.

what? Oh, hopefully not then.

Edit: So doing some reading since I can see it's a completely different story to the animated movie but apparently only loosely based on the original story.

Well most of the "fairy" tales that Disney animates does have a tragic tale to it, only for them to spin it around and make everything happy.

I would LOVE to see a Little Mermaid movie that is faithful to how Hans Christian Andersen had writing it. I feel if Andersen was still alive today he may be disappointed with Disney's 1989 movie. (I think I got the year right)

And add an extra talking and singing animal or creature of sorts making them an all out character.

She's not even going to called Ariel, Elizabeth isn't it?

Edit since posting this: Confused with another movie of the same title, ignore me.

Will they even let live action Ariel wear a shell bikini?

Sounds like something Disney would not want counting they banned midriffs in star wars and Jazmine's original outfit. But how else would they do a mermaid?

And why would they change her name to Elizabeth? That's even dumber

Some of you are confusing Disney's live action Little Mermaid movie with another movie with the same name from a different studio. Of course she'll be called Ariel in the Disney movie.

There's a rumor that Disney has offered the role of Ariel to Zendaya.

https://www.cinemablend.com/news/245...a-for-the-lead

She wasn't at the top of my list for who I wanted to play the part, but she might do well. Should this happen, maybe they will have Zac Efron play Prince Eric since the two of them had great chemistry in The Greatest Showman.

I dunno how to feel about this. But eh I’m okay with it I guess, could’ve been worse.

Still not official tho.

Well in the old sailor tales of Mermaids, they were mostly topless lol.
I am not sure how a live action little Mermaid would turn out. I guess I just see how it goes I suppose.
