I actually liked River until Moffat pulled the fact that she was Melody out of his ass. A Good Man Goes To War was such a great episode until that happened.
I gotta give Moffat credit for creating such an intriging story arc with her though. More than RTD could ever do. |

Listen. I will never, ever not love a character who delivers that line. It's that simple. I've always felt they're both creators/writers with their strengths and flaws, though different ones for both. But I think Moffat is just a much better sci-fi writer - his ideas are more ambitious and interesting, IMO, and that's something Doctor Who needs. I love both eras, but I enjoy the Moffat years a lot more, overall.

I like Amy Donna and Rose. Series 8 made Clara so unlikeable.

True that. Is there anything on Hulu? I don't have it as it's not in Canada

Stick with a lot of the stories where that one comes from, it's part of the Holmes/Hinchecliff era which is full of truly Gothic-flavored awesomeness, it gets considerably lighter sometime after "Horror of Fang Rock" when they bring in another producer and K-9, but there's still choice stories afterwards. "City of Death" is probably the best adventure/comedy story with the lighter format, and it's written by Douglas Adams too.

Ark in Space is also good. The rest of season 12 is a little Ropey. Tom Bakers first story (Robot) is a bit too simplistic and the effects are terrible even by 1974 standards. The Sontaron Experiment is short sweet and fun. Revenge of the Cybermen is… not the best. Season 13 is probably the strongest of the run. The Android Invasion is usually considered the clunker of the season; I like it more than Planet of Evil. The rest of the season is solid gold. Season 14 is also solid, The Masque of Mandragora being the only story of the bunch I would consider a turkey, but still good. The Deadly Assassin introduces a lot of Timelord lore. Season 15 new Producer and Script editor and the Gothic Horror theme is slowly being phased out. The Invasion of Time is not worth watching. Season 16 has a quest/story arc for the Key to Time. It is an enjoyable season, and for the most part the stories can ne enjoyed individually. The Stones of Blood begins with that classic Gothic Horror flavour that makes Tom so enjoyable. New Companion Romana as played by Mary Tamm is very easy on the eyes. Season 17, City of Death, as mentioned is an all time classic. Nothing else of interest here. Season 18, Tom’s final year and another new producer. Massive shake up here as Doctor Who enters the 1980s Lots of Synth music and eye liner. State of Decay was abandoned season 14/15 script (it’s Vampires and at that time the BBC were doing Dracula, so State of Decay got **** canned), so it has that Gothic horror flavour. It does sit in the middle of the E-Space trilogy, but can be enjoyed by it’s self.
