It seems that what gets most attention is stories with a lot of sex, drugs, violence, blood and torture just because of it's sake. I really hope for more fanfiction based on the 1987 cartoon and Archie comics (2003 already has a lot), especially the 1987 cartoon is under-represented despite it's fame.

What do you want to write about? Maybe I can help you. Try to make a mindmap? Things like:

*Characters (Which characters do you want to use, or maybe you will bring in new characters)
*Places (will the TMNT stay in New York City?, visit other places in the USA?, or maybe leave the USA visiting another country like Canada, Mexico or maybe Japan?) Plan which places you want to introduce. Maybe they sneak into freight trains, freight boats or freight aeroplanes. Or maybe Donatello's dimensional portal works fine this time (remember he used it for Earth transport once when the Technodrome was in the Arctic). Or maybe they will go to Dimension X?
*Plot (Are Shredder and Krang back trying to get Technodrome fuel from a power station, or maybe the Rat King is back?)
*Season (important to know Technodrome location), or maybe set after "Divide & Conquer"? Or before "Turtle Tracks".
*Time of year? Which time of year will you use? Hot summer with Sun or an ideal Christmas Day with snow covering the rooftops or treetops. Maybe not the most important, but describing it will create a better fealing.

I mostly write in the 2K3 universe as it's my favorite universe to write in. It just feels right to me.

I personally never write outside of the original cartoon universe. If you can write Rat King and Shredder both as humans rather than what we got and make it work in the 2003 cartoon then you got my vote for a part-time TMNT staffer. So consider that a challenge when you have time!

My fanfic takes place in the 1987 scenario and I'm so familiar with that and unfamiliar with any other, anything else TMNT-related I'd do would stay there, or with the Mirage comic series. Also, I'd emphasize things like culture clashes, such as Oroku Saki's traditional outfit being considered sissified by Western standards.

Sorry, I prefer the 2K3 series myself. Though I am thinking of writing a short 2K7 one-shot as well. I'd have to plot it out a bit though.

I pluck from each universe and go with my own. I keep movie 1, movie 4, and the 2k3 series in mind since I'm more familiar with them.

Wow, you did? Thanks, Zarius. Um, I'm thinking of taking down Always There and Lost and Found though. I'm not happy with them at all. I guess I'm just better at writing Turtles fics.
