Episode 105: The Turtles and the Hare

Rocksteady jumps out of the way of the Docilizer Ray when Hokum Hare moves the microwave satellite dish towards Shredder, but Krang tells him that it has no effect on mutants. 2. Inside the Microwave Transmission Center, the buttons on Shredder's Com-link are missing. 3. The Channel 6 Easter Egg Hunt banner changes from white to pink when we cut to a shot of only right portion of the sign visible with the Turtles, April, Mildred, and Hokum in front of the Turtle Van. Catchphrase/Insult Countdown: 1. Krang calls Rocksteady and Bebop idiots after he tells them that the Dosilizer has no effect on mutants. 2. Shredder calls Rocksteady and Bebop dumbunnies when he asks Krang about them testing his Docilizer. 3. Donatello says "Donatello Here" when he answers his Turtlecom in the Turtle Van. 4. Rocksteady refers to the Turtles as Shellbacks right before Shredder instructs him and Bebop to leave the Channel 6 building. 5. Michelangelo says "Holy Guacamole" when he sees the Big Bad Wolf runs after the Three Little Pigs on the Dimensional Scanner. 6. Leonardo and Raphael say "Turtle Power!" when they jump into Donatello's portal into the Fairy Tale Dimension. 7. Raphael calls Shredder "Shredhead" as his throws a sai and hits him. Pizza References: None in this episode. Pop Culture References: 1. The episode title is dervied from the Aesop fable The Tortoise and The Hare. 2. The fairy tale dimension contains an animated personification of some Mother Goose tales. Included are The Tortoise and the Hare, Rub-a-dub-dub, Chicken Little, The Three Little Pigs and Jack and the Beanstalk which is the primary fairy tale plot used in this episode. 3. This episode takes place at Easter, and is reflected by Donatello's Easter Egg machine, Easter Baskets, Bebop and Rocksteady's Easter Bunny disguises, and an Easter Egg Hunt. Fourth Wall Breaking Humor: 1. Right before Rocksteady and Bebop walk through the portal, Rocksteady says that this episode is going to be full of rabbit jokes. 2. After Shredder tells Rocksteady and Bebop to leave the Channel 6 studio, they say that someday they'll have their own show and they'll be the boss of Shredder. Wacky Inventions: 1. The original opening sequence last seen in "Back to the Egg" returns for this and the following episode. 3. This episode was animated by Murakami Wolf Dublin. 4. The Group W productions logo as it was last seen in "Back to the Egg" returns for this and the following episode. 5. First appearance of Hokum Hare. 6. Splinter does not appear in this episode. 7. Raphael is colored like Leonardo after the Turtles stopped looking at their older counterparts at their mansion. 2. In this episode, Shredder's Com-link is missing its yellow and red buttons and is mirror-flipped. 3. The Turtles board the subway for the future at the Central Avenue Station, but in the real NYC, there is no subway station with that name. 4. During Old April's report, Old Leonardo's belt initial is colored like it was in Season 2. Catchphrase/Insult Countdown: 1. Shredder is excited that the future holds a world without those wretched reptiles. 2. Shredder says that even in the future he is plagued by those blasted reptiles. 3. The Turtles say "Turtle Power" as they leave the Lair as Hokum warns them that Shredder is trying to take over the future. 4. Raphael calls Shredder Shredhead when he first sees him in the future. 5. The Turtles say "Turtle Power" as they swing across the subway station in 2036 to knock down some thugs. 6. After the battle with Bebop and Rocksteady's gang, he tells Hokum and the other Turtles to find Tin Grin. 7. The old Turtles say "Turtle Power" after they accept to battle Shredder while in their flying car. 8. High-Five calls the Turtles "greenback yellowbellies" when the young Turtles escape into the subway. Pizza References: 1. Hokum cooks a pizza, bunny-style with lots of vegetable toppings at the start of the episode. When Hokum leaves the Lair, he asks Michelangelo to keep the pizza warm. 2. Michelangelo is seen eating pizza in the lair, but Splinter takes it away from him noting that all those calories will make him fat. 3. Michelangelo's Cowabunga Pizza is a pizzeria in 2036, topped with a statue of Michelangelo holding a pizza. 4. Reginald delivers Old Michelangelo about nine pizzas and eats one. 5. Old Michelangelo offers young Michelangelo a piece of his farewell pizza right before he returns to 1991. 6. Hokum is seen with three pizza boxes has he stands in Donatello's portal. Pop Culture References: 1. The subway in 1991 shows some graffiti, including the Peace Sign when April signs out of her report on crime. 2. Raphael is trying to watch Milligan's Island, a parody of the TV series Gilligan's Island until Splinter turns off the TV for ninja exercises. 3. When Hokum sees a statue of the Turtles in the future, Hokum says that they are more famous than Little Bo Peep. 4. As Hokum enters Donatello's portal, he says that Hansel and Gretel would love the Turtles' pizzas. Fourth Wall Breaking Humor: 1. Hokum says he sees the same bad guys he met on the last episode when he peeks down into the subway car in which Shredder and his mutants are on. 2. Jersey Red says "I always wanted to say that" when she forces the police officers against the wall inside the police station. 3. After Donatello says that there is less than 15 minutes remaining to save the future and return to 1991, Raphael asks him if that counts the commercial break. 4. When Shredder tells the young Turtles to challenge him at the subway tunnel, Raphael looks at the camera and says "I wonder if he means us". 5. Michelangelo says that he never would feel that he would say something like that after he rejects Old Michelangelo's Farewell Pizza. Wacky Inventions: 1. The Flying Taxi 2. Final appearance of the Group W Productions laser lights logo, and the final episode that plays the closing theme in full until "Tower of Power". 4. Final episode animated by Murakami Wolf Dublin. 5. This episode was not released on DVD until the Season 10 DVD was released. 6. Final appearance of Bebop and Rocksteady's gang, though only three members from "The Gang's All Here" are seen. 7. Many of the civilians in 2036 have hairstyles resembling the Neutrinos. 8. The Statue of Liberty turns into the Statue of Shredder and back in this episode. 9.
