I read through all the youtube comments on that video, they're hilarious. Even scarier is that this video is now 13 years old...

The only reason I was ever on TV was because a friend at Mirage Studios recommended me to be on a collector show back in 2004, and that's how VH1 got a hold of me. Before that I didn't really post under my name online, and people knew me online as Donatello, Michaelangelo, or IveyAngelo. I was not even the first TMNT fan I knew to be on a collector show, Roseangelo was on one before we even met. I never thought a collector show would keep going viral the way the VH1 show has. Now to say those who do things out of passion need to create stuff isn't really true. People can enjoy their passion and keep it to themselves and still just be as epic of a fan as the loud spoken fans. I know people with super large collections, that are known by the studios, but do not post on message boards or go to events. This does not make that person any less of a fan. No fan owes anything to the other fans, we're all equal. Some fans are just louder than others, and those who do stuff for the entire fandom is doing it because they want too, not because they have to. There are those out there seeking a title, I know some. They normally come into meeting fellow fans as a competition, wanting to know what you own, how much the value, ect... then there's the fans who do it just because of their pure passion. A calling. Because every time they think they can walk another road, they find themselves smack in the middle of the next adventure with the passion that is holding them. A great example here is Tokka, a huge TMNT fan, his passion is so clear and his collection is really epic. He volunteers so much of his time posting his collection to the internet, many people use his archive of pictures that he's posted online through the years. He only wishes people would give him credit for his work of archiving and scanning these images, but he does it because of his love of the franchise. He's not doing what he does for a title, or because he owes anything. He's just being himself and sharing. You don't know me, but if you ever want to. I am around, and I see everyone as a friend unless they prove otherwise. I'm open, always happy to meet fellow TMNT fans. I feel all fans are equal, a lesson Roseangelo taught me in 1996 when I did post a challenge on TMNT-L, to see who was the biggest TMNT fan... the challenge was to go to the Words & Pictures Museum for a 50/50 chance of meeting Kevin Eastman at the yearly membership party.. she wrote me saying not all fans can afford to do trips like that, and it can't be judged in such a manor. I agree with her, and dropped the challenge. But still promoted the event for anyone interested in going. Kevin Eastman and Julie Strain were both at the event that year. I still promote events online that I see TMNT people are going to, if I can make it or not. And I never did a challenge like that or any other again, instead I stand by the lesson that all fans are equal as I love that. You can't really judge passion. Quote:
Now TMNT-L I did not create. TMNT-L was created by a man name Jonathan back in 1995. He ran ninjaturtles.com before Mirage Studios took over the URL for their website in January 1996. I found the website shortly after it was created and that's where I learned to join TMNT-L, which was using an email program called listserv, which is where the L in the title comes from. There was only 15 members when I joined, with about 1 email a week. In 1996 we started to get more members, including Shredder, who took over TMNT-L when Jonathan stepped down. TMNT-L went through many changes through these years, including being a Yahoo group and it's first message board. In 2005 Shredder wanted to go a different way with the message board, going with a full 80's theme for shows like Ghostbusters and ThunderCats. I asked if I could take the name TMNT-L, to keep it a TMNT message board. And with the help of another TMNT fan, named Fugitoid the TMNT-L message board was made. Fugitoid was the admin, and I was just one of the moderators on the forum (usually had the not so fun job of speaking up when people broke rules). The TMNT-L forum was around till 2018 when Fugitoid disappeared from the picture. I am working to try and get the archives from TMNT-L, if anything it's to preserve the posts from some of the fans who've passed away like Cynlee, Buslady, Klork and Crittle to name a few. Their reviews, event posts, fanfictions, and so much more should still be up there for others to read if they want to. I hope to some day get it up there, even if it is only a read only site. It's good to keep their memories alive. I do have something in the works for TMNT-L to return again, though life has not allowed me to follow through with these plans yet. It went from 1995 to 2018, I would love to see some life back in the old group. There is a Facebook page and group for the forum, but those are very quiet. Quote:
I do agree some of the comments are really funny. I've had fun with commenters before, back when the show was new I did a search and found a message board talking about the show and a news paper story about me. I read through about 15 pages of people talking about me, and mocking the video. I laughed a LOT, then wrote up a fun reply answering all of their questions. They were shocked that I saw their posts, let alone replied. I even had to take a picture of myself holding the name of their forum to prove I was really me. They were amused that I joked and laughed with them, and did not get angry. But I feel anyone judging that show is picking on the character VH1 made up, that's not really me. So I can laugh with them. For those who want to see how that show was made, my dad followed them around with a video camera when they were filming and I did an episode of Cowabunga Corner covering the behind the scenes of Totally Obsessed. Yes, I have read through the other comments... I agree me singing is awful at the beginning of the lives... but it's better than sitting there going... "I'm just waiting for people to show up.... hang on..." or sitting in quiet for a minute... it took me awhile of doing lives to realize I want to do something during that buffer time... but if you watch Cowabunga Corner episodes you see I don't sing at the intro ever. So yup, can totally understand not liking that. Though those picking on my health... I openly admit that I am disabled. I was injured on October 26th, 2004 and got a condition known as CRPS. Some days are good, some are not. When I'm over worked, like I am now trying to move, I have more bad days than good ones. So yes, I don't look healthy. It's because of how many attacks I am going through. I've been going through this health problem for 20 years now. I use to try and hide videos of me sick and hurting, but I stopped hiding it around 2016. Still it's disappointing to see people using one's health as a reason to pick on them. I saw Peter mentioned in that very post... he's not hiding that he's having a hard time but he's still going out there to see fans. We as the fans should be supportive, and thrilled that he cares enough to not hide away. Quote:
I do hope you bump into the Ivy/Ivey that you met there. It's always fun reconnecting with fellow fans

My point was only, from experience, that being recognized as a "super fan" only really goes one of two ways - it is either eye rolling to most people or you roll with it and try to add to your corner of the hobby in some dignified way. That's all. |

I was at the bottom of the social-swimming-pool in my area before I ever heard of Ninja Turtles back in the 80's. Learned fast that what other people think of me doesn't matter as long as I'm doing my best with my life, and no one was being hurt. You can never please everyone, so do your best for your close friends and family, and don't take much offence to those who don't understand. Na, no real negative. I just explained my view of the fandom that we're all equal. Some loud, some not so loud. And I agree with you that people will be judged, but I just say don't do this kind of stuff if you're worried about what people think of you. It's cool that you're deep into Iron Man, everyone has their areas. Marvels a fun one. I enjoy the movies and shows, and a friend of mine lets me read their comics from time to time.

I've seen people pointing out that you routinely ask for money instead of selling pieces of your collection. A bit more clearly: you want others to help you before you help yourself. |

So you missed the post where they were saying that I could die before Peter Laird? It's not too far back.

I spend a lot of my time helping other people, so I don't mind asking for help from time to time when things come up. And no I don't ask for help every time things come up. But at the same time my family has moved people in off the street, helped families with their bills and holidays, and done so much more through the years. I also don't go around on forums and groups and ask for help.. I ask on my Facebook and Instagram accounts. Which have friends who were asking if there was ways to help, knowing what my family is going through. And knowing how much we bend over backwards to help other people in need. And the best thing I can do when I help, is try to make it so people don't lose stuff that means something to them. Instead, see if they can keep their life even when bad things happen. So yes.. the collection is not up for sale. And yes, I am willing to ask my friends for help... and at the same time, I am willing to help my friends when they need help. I've donated to GoFundMe, I've taken part in Kickstarters, I've helped people move, I've got people out of situations that were killing them, and I've given rides to people who've lost their cars. I will always help when I can. And that's how I live, when my friends need me I'm there. And I don't care if they got something they could sell to fix their problem. Money is not everything, and I've watched people sell things and the money disappear just as fast as it appears. The regret they go through, then spending even more money to buy the same item, or not be able to get it back because it was one of a kind. The world is a better place when people help each other. But that's up to each person if they feel that way or not.
