Its a shame this generation will be remembered mostly for Call of Duty's insane popularity than anything else.

By the time we were in 2008 or so I was already sick of FPS being the dominant genre this gen. We need more third-person action games with platforming and stealth elements.

Splinter Cell Blacklist was pretty good, and more stuff like GTA/Batman/Ass Creed/Dead Space/Tomb Raider was the best.

Dude genre oversaturation is nothing new, the 90s had platformers and fighting games for their call of duty, even then I consider COD as a time killer, something dumb that you can just pop in and play, not really gonna be remebered in the long run, plus most people just played the multiplayer so yeah

Call of Duty had what....7 or 8 releases this generation? Remember Call of Duty 2 and 3 also came out on the 360...and this is before the COD4 phenomenon.

No one remebers 2 and 3 and like I said it won't really be remebered, think of it as a popcorn game. Nothing really special

It's based on hardware release, numbnuts. Do you not know how to read? The 360 was the start of its generation.

The Wii U is next gen, But its up to par graphically with the 360 and PS3. By the time we get to Xbox One and PS4, Wii U's graphics would be considered last gen. Nintendo is always a step behind when it comes to graphics in there consoles.

Nintendo actually had the most powerful hardware compared to the others through the Gamecube.

NES was more powerful than the Master System, SNES was better hardware than the Genesis, the N64 was more powerful than PS1, and the Gamecube was on par with PS2.

They only fell behind when they purposely stayed with PS2/Gamecube era power with the Wii.

My favorite game this generation was The Last of Us.

I got completely sucked up in the experience and the last few hours packed a punch I haven't felt since Metal Gear Solid 3.

I fell in love with Dark Souls, Dead Space 2. and Arkham City as well.

I guess I'm a third person action game fan.

Third person action games are the best genre. Especially since you can do it in so many different ways, as seen by GTA, Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Assassin Creed, Dead Space, Batman Arkham, The Last Of Us, Uncharted, Tomb Raider, Splinter Cell...etc.

Aside from platformers, third-person action games are my favorite genre.

I agree that "third person action" is a broad term and can be applied to a lot of games that may actually have radically different mechanics.

It's a versatile genre but "the best" is a matter of opinion. Some people hate those games and mostly play RPGs or fighting games, for example. Just to play devil's advocate.

MY favorite game of this Generation, as it draws to a close, is probably Red Dead Redemption.
Amazing experience. LOVE that game... I miss it.
Arkham Asylum or Arkham City is probably somewhere close there too... but as fun and awesome as it was, it honestly wasn't on my mind when I clicked on this topic. RDR baby!

I own and played numerous titles in the last 3-4 years I have had my Xbox but this one is my fav.
Of course I'm still without a Sony or Nintendo product since PS2 and Gamecube

There was no single game I actually loved this gen 100%. Its probably because I'm older now and am much more critical of games than I have been in the past. That and I don't have time to replay games over and over again like when I was a teen so I don't get that much into them anymore.

I did enjoy all the franchises I listed above, but no game has "wowed" me since Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Resident Evil 4, or Metal Gear Solid 3.

Granted I have not played GTA V yet, so I don't know about that.

I just don't view the Wii the same way as I do the PS3/360.
