Game of the Year MMXVI
Alright, homies, from what I know there aren't many more games coming out for the year, so let's do it. What is everyone's Game of the Year?
Some good stuff came out this year. Doom, Overwatch, Gears, Pokemon, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, Quantum Break, ReCore. Let me know what you guys think and I'll come back with a more thought out list. |

From what I've played:
Dishonored II is #1. You can't truly appreciate it till you have 2-3 playthroughs and see how many ways you can get through the levels. Honorable mentions: Dues Ex: Mankind Divided Doom Rise of the Tomb Raider (I just played it on PS4 this year) Overwatch Ratchet and Clank Uncharted 4 (not great, but still above average) The Last Guardian The Nintendo side was kind of barren this year, not to many major releases but some good ones: Pokemon Sun/Moon Kirby Planet Robobot Paper Mario Color Splash Starfox Zero Did Fire Emblem come out this year or last year? I don't remember. |

I'd have to go with Pokemon Go, seeing as how it was the only game that came out this year that I've played, even if it was only a little bit.

I wouldn't want to speak too soon, but it's probably going to be The Last Guardian, which I've nearly completed.
Other games that were also exceptional to me: Final Fantasy XV Doom TitanFall 2. |

Man, completely forgot about Dark Souls 3 despite playing it for 50 hours. LOL. Witcher III: Blood and Wine was also great DLC.

Haven't played it yet, but I'm going to pick Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.

The kind of person who says so-and-so is game of the year without even playing it.

For others it obviously won't be. But for me, someone who rarely ever buys new games (as most new games don't interest me) when a new game comes out that I DO like, it's probably gonna be my "game of the year." In this case, I haven't played any new game this year that I liked, but since a new Shantae's coming out, a fun game series, I'll consider it MY game of the year.

Let me try to explain myself better.
Modern video games hardly interest me. I myself don't own a new console (while various members of my family do, even in my own household). The newest console I own is a PS2 Slim, which I got for dirt cheap. Apart from that, I own mostly older consoles (NES, Sega Saturn, Pong, etc.) because I prefer those to the new stuff. Graphics, load times, or whatever companies use to sell their consoles, don't matter to me. What I care about is how the actual game plays like, and how fun it is. What gets put out on these modern day consoles is boring to me: games where all you do is blow people's heads up, or run over people with cars, or whatever people like to play. Good games, to me, are rare to see nowadays, and those few that come out just aren't worth it enough to pay over-the-top prices for new consoles, so I'd rather just spend the money on older stuff, that's cheaper and, sometimes, better. Getting back to the topic (and sorta restating myself) newer games don't appeal that much to me, so when a new game like Shantae or Marvel vs Capcom Infinite comes out, that are properties I love, I already know they'll be better than any new GTA game that could come out, at least to me. So that's why I say that a game like Shantae, one I still haven't played, would qualify as MY "Game of the Year." |
