That said, Unlimited was planned at one time to be a 2099 cartoon |

As much as people bash Unlimited, I still admire its technical design and fluid animation.
Even though it was a weird setting, they definitely got Peter's arc and melodramatic cues right. Too bad that it was Rino Romano's only tenure on the character outside of those early 2000s, pre-Raimi films video games. I'd like to see the scripts for the unproduced episodes--he was supposed to return to Earth at some point from what I've read on various wikis. EDIT: Someone has looked into this by contacting the original writers, if anyone has an interest. Spoiler:

I really wanted to love Spider-Man Unlimited, I"m a fan of those weird red headed spin-offs no one likes but it was too weird for me to get into it. I love symbiotes but everything else was just so out there. I loved the first episode on earth though. I even tried to come up with a way to fit it into the 90s Spider-Man cartoon continuity.
The New animated series which was based on the films was really weird. I like the CG/cel shaded type art style they went with. Since it aired on MTV it made plenty more than subtle references to sex and mild cursing whatnot but yet the episodes were not written for an older viewership of MTV. They still felt like generic cartoon plots most of the time. Even though it was a sequel to the first film the relationships did not make much sense. I liked that they basically made the DareDevil Fox film in continuity with the Spider-Man films by having the kingpin reprise his role in the show. Counting all the villains that appear in the show never appeared in the sequels I guess it could still count as in continuity. The one original character the show made was pretty cool and she had an awesome arc, can't remember her name but she deserved to appear in another incarnation, she's mostly forgotten by now. |

Looks like the character designer took some cues from Steven Universe and Legend of Korra.
It'll be interesting to see how they develop Peter's personality through this series, as he's obviously rather green in that clip.

I can't wait to see the same plot beats, characters, and "adaptations" again!
Seriously, just do Season 3 of Spectacular for Netflix. |

Rights issues prevent that from ever happening, unfortunately. The show is tied up between Marvel and Sony, and they clearly are interested in doing their own thing rather than collaborate more than they already have. The scope and general intelligence of that show was phenomenal though, easily on par with any live-action Spidey film if not surpassing many of them. Anyone who's interested in writing for television could learn a lot about character development from it.
But I guess it's cheaper and more efficient to pump out the garbage you see up there. |

The only character from that cast I'm genuinely interested in seeing is the Jackal, at least with Dimaggio's voice. Otherwise, I'm not too excited about this selection, especially "Joe."
Damn, if Sony wasn't a bunch of cheap punks with the rights. So much "what-if" on what could've happened had things worked out.

I'm pretty sure show would never have the balls to do anything close to what the Jackal did in the comics.

Other than DiMaggio though, I highly doubt Jackal is going to leave much of an impression. Younger audiences at least will see him for the first time as he didn't appear in Ultimate Spider-Man (to my knowledge). Otherwise... what's the point other than another MCU advertisement?

New interview which confirms the show will have a second season
http://www.cbr.com/marvel-spider-man...ers-interview/ They tease that Venom could be either Eddie Brock or Flash Thompson, and that Doc Ock starts out as a decent guy who will have an arc that will be the reverse of Peter's own. |
