TMNT costume sculpt for a coming fanfilm WIP

Hey all, this is the start of a sculpt that will end up being a full costume for an upcoming fan film or web series. There are a lot of ideas being thrown around at the moment. The one thing is certain, this is how the turtles will look. The sculpt is not finished being textured yet, but when it is it will be cast in thick latex. When the actor opens and closes their jaw, it should give movement to the mouth of the turtle.

I use talcum powder in the texturing process, hence the whiteness in the crevices. Let me know what you guys think.

Interesting take on the Turtle design and not the usual live action/fan film look. Pretty cool.

Thanks man. The film\series is to be based very much in a universe that is a mixture of the Mirage comics and the first live action film. We really want our own look when it comes to the turtles.

So after being in and out of hospital, being cut open sewn up, cut open again then sewn up finally, I am ready to continue working on this. I have made up the armatures for the arms and legs and will have some update pics soon.

The beak gives it a hint of Michael Zulli's Soul's Winter story, looks great.

curious how you're gonna handle facial expressions with a beak thought.

Thanks man. Since there will be minimal movement in the mask, we will be using post production eg after effects for expression and such.

So I got the arm armatures made and I am now awaiting a shipment of clay to get started. Duct tape molds of my arms filled with expanding foam. Cheap. Effective.

I am thinking of going with the bandage up the arm look that they used for the next mutation, it would save on time and on latex. I never particularly liked those costumes, they were too comical. I think the bandages looked tough though. What do you guys think?

Update. I got my clay today and have started work on the first forearm. The arms and legs should not take too long to sculpt really. Hopefully I will have some pulls to show off soon!

Like I say, I am thinking of having bandages going up the forearm like on the Next Mutation costumes. Any thoughts on that guys?

I will be using the same arms, legs, shell etc. for all four and then just altering the head sculpt to suit them, by adding scars and such.

The first forearm is done, I photoshopped the images to give an idea of what it will look like finished.
-Sorry about the photo's, for some reason they won't rotate for me.

I definately like the bandage, both for looks and the time\ resources it will save me. The forearm will eventually have a leather wrist strap and will connect to the bicep and chest piece using a leather elbow ala the first live action suits, that I am yet to make. Time to do the next arm and really finish the head!

Looks good - are you gonna "dirty up" the bandage? I think it would look cool if it were a little less pristine.

Thanks man. Yeah definately, the whole arm still needs to be molded in plaster then cast in latex. The bandage on the arm at the moment is an old cut up tshirt haha!

I like how you made the Turtle face slightly reptilian. Kind of like that phony "leaked" turtle mask that was supposed to be in the upcoming film but was really a student project.

The detail and texture on the hand is amazing! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what the finished turtle looks like!

Thank you, this is the first large scale project like this I have taken on. I hope I pull through! I love your signature by the way!

I definitely let myself be influenced by that piece! Apparently it was animatronic too, but the guy who made it never took any video! I think the beak on these designs makes the turtles look edgier.

I just noticed your sculpture and I salute you on taking on a such an ambitious project. It's looking good!

Sorry to hear about your health and the broken molds.

Don't worry about us...take care of your health first and foremost, because we only have our one body to work with. Take care and all the best.
