I just beat Sagat on SFI without cheating
So I just beat Sagat in the original Street Fighter, without using save states, lowering the difficulty or using continues. I didn't even need two rounds. In fact, the entire run only required me to use one continue...
I've never been able to do that before and Sagat in SFIis arguably the hardest SF boss ever. Then again, I only did the usual "Try to make a special all the time" method that is largely agreed to be the best way to beat this crappy game... Should I get a drink to celebrate or to forget I ever did it? |

I haven't played that game since just before it disappeared forever in lieu of SFII. What format are you playing it on?

That's amazing! Especially since our childhoods were right about Capcom AI cheating! Here's a video on it. You did great work!

Switch, it's included in a SF collection.

Ohhh very cool! Did you beat it using a fighter stick of some kind or the controller that comes with the switch?

I don't take pride in this victory, because, the whole game is such shoddily designed, with this battle in particular being the pinnacle of crapiness, so I can't really say was it really hard or not or even was it worth the effort. I still in awe that guys who made this garbage, later created Fatal Fury and an amazing King of Fighters series. If you, by chance, want to torture yourself in similar manner, you can play original Fatal Fury and original Art of Fighting. The guys who designed OG SF1 made these games as well and they a lot like SF1, just prettier. But everything about them is a garbage. |

I should probably watch it on YouTube somewhere and get it out of my system. I'd never sit there and play that physical game ever again. lol! |

It is quite funny, how such a mediocre game had a sequel which shook the whole gaming scene. |

Then when you'd go to the arcade and pull off a dragon punch the whole mob standing around would cheer as if you actually did some amazing martial arts move in real life or something... in hindsight the whole thing is a riot! |

I have SF1 on both the ps2(Capcom classics collection) and of course the Switch.
I have beaten SF1 with out continues. It really comes down to 2 fights for my perfect run. Adon and Saget. Both are the hardest fighters in the game. If I am lucky and land my specials when I need em, Or Adon or Saget want to be jerks and by pass what I throw at em and knock me out in a hit or 2. These 2 fights could go either way with Ryu/Ken getting the ko fast or Saget and Adon. They have ruin a perfect run before, but other times Ryu did go undefeated in the Tournament lol. |

All I have to contribute to this thread is that I love that it's a thread.

Ryu, which is basically the only option. You can play as Ken if you use the second controller but the only difference gameplay-wise is that you start on the right-hand side. Character select just wasn't common in fighting games before SFII. The first one ever was Galactic Warriors in 1985, then there's the bonus vs mode in Double Dragon from 1988, a video game adaptation of Spitting Image appearently forces you to play different character (you don't select them from what I get), Nekketsu Judo from 1989 technically has character select and Violence fight from 1989 also has character select. Point is that there's like one game with character select before SFI and four (if you stretch the definition) between it and SFII, or at I only know of those five.

Look at this amazing character selection from the first Street Fighter game lol. In "Order" to be Ken, you both need to put your quarters in, and have Ryu lose to Ken. Than you can play the rest of the game as Ken. |

Pre-SF2 fighting games were quite poor in all departments.
The few highlights include Yie Ar Kung Fu from Konami, it plays surprisingly well, for the time, Pit Fighter and Chinese Exorcist, though not because of the gameplay, it is **** in both cases. Pit Fighter was the first fighting game with digitized sprites, which later was popularized by certain Mortal Kombat, and Chinese Exorcist used sprites made from stop-animation technology, which gave game very distinct uncanny feeling.
