How Big Is Krang?
What is Krang’s size?
Because different incarnations present him differently, is there a definitive size for Krang? A fan consensus? How large is he in relation to other TMNT characters? Do you prefer utroms to be about the size of a human head as depicted in Mirage and the 2K3 toon or do you think they should be larger like Krang in the OT? I recently caught some Red Sky episodes and damn! I forgot how large he was. Is Krang larger than other utroms or are they all similar in size? I think the recent movie, for all its flaws, nailed Krang’s size and look. I think he should be larger to pose more of a threat when outside his android body. Also, how tall/large should his droid body be? I think the IDW version is probably near perfect. Thoughts? |

Small enough, and not heavy, for Shredder to carry him.

Most descriptions for Utroms describe them as about the size of a basketball, if someone wants consistency for size.
The 2003 show is a little unusual for his size, and even Cory Smith's depiction in issue 73 of IDW, where he seems to take up the entire prison bed (and a little extra, as one of his tentacles drapes over the side), making him the size of a humanoid torso. I think beachball sized should be the biggest at the max, and basketball at the smallest.

He's generally a bit bigger than a standard Utrom. He's a lot rounder.

Strangely enough, he gets bigger when his robot body sometimes expands.

There does seem to be a lot of inconsistency as far as shape too. I think the basketball idea as far as size is pretty interesting. The OT sometimes has him as a round mass and sometimes he's just oval shaped like an egg. I still think he was most impressive when he faced Shredder in OOTS, even though that movie was awful.

All the more reason why Shredder's first instinct upon seeing him was screaming and punching him in the face . I think the one part of that design that I liked was the inclusion of a "beard", which I've started including in my version of Utroms.
But for the most part, they are ideally big enough to carry in two hands, maybe one if you're strong/confident enough, depending on how much they weigh. Which would probably be 10-15 pounds.

Pics like this give a good scale of how he was in the original cartoon:
His whole head looks arguably bigger than Shredder's head. Krang was very round. |

Krang is an obese Utrom.
A better question is why does he also grow when his robot suit grows? |

If the original cartoon had enlarging and shrink rays in various episodes, it was likely built into Krang's android body. |

Except in the series finale when the two turtles in the body didn't grow with it when it was enlarged?
I would definately believe Krang to be on the heavier side for Utroms, but he's not nearly as portly as Churk is. Who still manages to jump five feet off the ground and attack someone at the face without losing much energy.

So... 10 to 15 pounds and small enough to carry in both hands or under one arm?
That would be about the size of a small to medium sized dog or very large and obese house cat? |

Pretty much. I don't think anything lighter would work on for adult Utrom.

but as big as a beachball would be very large and, while imposing, imagine how large his body would have to be to accommodate.
I think the general consensus here then is that you want him to be about the size of a large house cat otherwise things get pretty unwieldy. In OOTS when he first met Shredder [at least to me] he seemed insanely huge. That could have been just the lighting though. |

One thing I've noticed in IDW is that Ch'rell is probably even bigger than Krang. It looks like he was barely able to fit into the stasis tube.

According to the animation guide for the OT isn't he at or a little over a foot tall?
