I was so stoked about finally getting a farley sketch that I contacted mark bode (who's work I also love) to commission a sketch. He asked what my budget was and I said $130 including shipping. He replied back saying that he'll be in the Brooklyn area (nowhere near me) and will be doing cheaper con sketches there. He said for drawing and mailing it would be more, so I asked him how much for a single character b&w. For a single character b&w sketch, he quoted me $500! I was blown away. He's the artist and can ultimately charge whatever he wants but to be honest it felt he just didn't want to do it, so rather than saying no, he just over priced it. I've NEVER heard of someone charging that much for a single character sketch h with no background. Needless to say I was highly disappointed

That is a little bit outrageous

From Jim you can get a fully colored group with background and everything and still have two bills left after

That's plain ridiculous. I probably would have told him to screw off.

On a side note: I wish Farley would post more pics on his facebook.

I emailed bode back just to clarify, but I was very specific in my original email. It is what it is...

I'm sure Craig's working hard. I'm patiently waiting what I'm sure will be a cherry piece of art

Yeah, being an art guy has pretty much just one bummer to it, and you've just found that out. Some people just straight up overcharge. I like Bodes work but definitely NOT for $500. Even if that were a group shot. Fully painted, sure, understandable, but not a single inked character. Get the shell outta here. Buuut yeah anyway I'm super excited about the Farley pieces still. Can't wait to see what he comes up with for me. But thankfuly my Dan Duncan commission came in the mail today and that'll tide me over for a bit.

No. I'm sure we'll get them in due time. I'm guessing we'll start seeing a few within the next 2-3 weeks. I'm sure he probably has other jobs going on as well. Many artists take several months to finalize commissions. Eddie nunez took a couple weeks shy of a full year to draw me a single character. I dont think farley will take anywhere near that long to complete our stuff.

Man, I hope we start getting stuff. Anyone else friends with him on Facebook? He's been posting a good bit of stuff lately, but hasn't posted anything about the commissions in a good while.

Anyone know if AC is still accepting emails on this? I'd love to get some of his art.

As it was said a page ago, people will post their stuff when they get it. It's not like we're sitting here hoarding the goods.

I am very anxious, though. The waiting period for any commission sucks ass, but none moreso than the ones you never thought would even happen. I know not to rush greatness, & I know how busy he must be, but I do hope our time comes soon!

Yeah I am very anxious to see the awesomeness that will ensue. This is my first commission.

Farley said he would do them in order of payment received. Even if he mailed them out all in the same day, at best you'd only see it a day earlier than others.

Yeah, not to mention he hasn't said a thing on FB about commissions in some time... I wonder if he's even had the time to work on them. Nobody here has posted theirs, that's for sure. I know a friend of mine who got something from him some time back and waited almost a year, or more, even, I don't quite recall.

Wow, yeah, that would not be fun. Hopefully he'll get them out sooner rather than later, some people do move/change residence. It would suck big time for them. My guess is before Christmas.

As you said before, the waiting game for commissions suck. Jim Lawson is a bit of an anomaly with his ultra fast turn-arounds. The funny thing is, I've asked several artists how long the process takes and they each said if they could do it in one sitting it'd be about 2-6 hours for b&w depending on # of characters. I'm sure most of the sketches he has taken are the 40 min - 2 hr type.

He's probably really busy, and not just with these commission. I'm sure he has a life outside of doing comic book art as well. Might have to give him some time.

Aha, if only it were so easy for the rest of us! Art is my all time favorite collectible, so in times like this I get super anxious! So much so, that I'll usually commission two people at once so that I can get something in the waiting period! Can't help it.

Same here. I have a lot of toys, but I love TMNT art, I can stare at it for hours.
