I don't know what to make of that, except intrigued and optimistic. Bring it.

I'm stoked for this movie and think it will be awesome. Probably won't get to see it in theaters though unless my sis takes me, but if not, I can always get it on DVD.

A lot of things, actually.
She sticks out way too much, and not in the good way. Not only is she the only Disney Princess to not even be from a Walt Disney Animation Studios film, but she doesn't even sing either. Those two things alone are like, the rules of a being an official Disney Princess...some of the rules, anyway. I also hate her personality. Every other Disney Princess, despite being teenagers, can all be seen as mature women through the way they talk, act, etc. Merida on the other hand is the brattiest, most annoying "get out of my room mom you don't understand me" type of teenage character I've ever seen. She complained about literally everything and just moans and groans so much throughout so much of the movie and I just can't stand it. She's just annoying. And then the worst, is the whole "feminist" thing tied to her. People praise (or praiseD, she's not really popular anymore) her for being the most progressive and independent Disney Princess while that simply is NOT the case. If they wanted to have an ACTUAL progressive princess, they could have made a movie where the "I DON'T NEED NO MAN I'M SO STRONG LOOK AT ME I'M NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS" message wasn't being shoved down your throat the entire time. I could see what they were trying to do but it honestly just comes off as way too preachy and forced. Merida literally doesn't even do anything to be "progressive". All she does is whine and complain about her life and just overall, she is a rather unpleasant character when it comes to that. Yeah she had a bow and could shoot well (WOW SO PROGRESSIVE OMG) but when it came to down to actually fighting or saving the day, she didn't do ANYTHING. Her MOM is the one who saves HER... Not to mention that Brave is an extremely generic movie. It's by far one of Pixar's weakest films, and really all it feels like is Pixar trying to imitate WDAS. There's just nothing special or magical about like there is with the other Disney Princess movies. And that my friend is why Merida has and always will be my least favorite Disney Princess...unless they somehow make one that's even worse, but I doubt that's possible. |

Funny, I rank Brave as one of the best Pixar movies just under the Incredibles and the three Toy Story movies. Also the fact Merida breaks so many Disney Princess clichés is a breath of fresh air. My only complaint is that her mother defeated the immortal bear and not Merida herself.

Wanna bet the coconut creatures are Disney's minions? Next they will have their own movie and it will make 6 billion dollars.

We're calling Merida the most whiney princess?
Is there collective amnesia regarding Ariel? The stroppy red-head who isn't a child because she's a whole whopping 16 years old, and she "loves" a boy. If we're grading on a whiny scale, she's the extreme end of it. Me personally? I thought Lilo was the best Disney Princess, right up until Leia became a Disney Princess.

I quite liked Inside out, it reminded me of this short-lived sitcom that used to be on tv called "Herman's Head."
I found a lot of that movie very hard to watch, for good/painful reasons. But...I like Zootopia way more.

Caught this tonight. I dug it. Overall, if i had to rank it I'd place it above Tangled but below Frozen. But prettier to look at than either.

I for one loved it. The music is awesome as is the animation. Maui isn't a main character, there's no love interest, I love the depiction of the Pacific Islander culture and how everything ties together. Also, Moana has BOTH parents! Also love that she doesn't consider herself a princess just because her father is a Chief (and she's being conditioned to be the next Chief).
That chicken tho...that ever derpy chicken.

While my islander princess is LILO, I enjoyed this film out of the three (this, tangled, frozen) I believe I enjoyed this the best.
It had a good balance to where no one was really bad. |

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. The protagonist was so likable and had many layers to her character as well. She might've had a few similar traits to other Disney Princesses, but I still thought she was great. Maui was a fun deuteragonist (second most important character). Dwayne Johnson gave him lots of personality. The music also really fit the story as well. The movie is also beautiful to look at and I'm hoping to see it in 3D sometime later because I think the special effects would look stunning in that format.

I really enjoyed this movie a lot. It was delightful from beginning to end. Though, I think I enjoyed the animation a bit more than the overall story. It was just so dang beautiful. I can't get over how far cg has come with regards to water and fire effects. Also hair. Holy crap hair! In addition the animation styles that shifted through out the movie. I recently learned that all of Maui's tattoos were actually traditional hand drawn animation, which is just...awesome.

Just yesterday I was watching the Skylanders show on Netflix and I thought not only about how far CG had come but also how it had hit a plateau. The show just looked great, sure some of the textures weren't as great as a Pixar movie or small details like maybe the hair that you mention but I mean TV animated CG is great. It's not the difference you used to see in the 90s with Toy Story and those early CG shows. |
