I'm pretty sure my father took me to see this when I was only 5 years old. I remember even as a kid instantly recognizing this and the second movie were so different than the cartoon, noticing the Foot Soldiers weren't robots and there wasn't any Krang, Bebop, or Rocksteady.

In a way the original movies were basically the "gateway drug" to the Mirage comics for a lot of us as kids. Back then most of us only knew about the original cartoon, toys or Archie comics, it wasn't until we saw these movies that we realized, "Hey, there is another version of TMNT out there?" and so forth.

A lot of people don't realize what a huge impact these movies made for kid TMNT fans in the 90's.

So, not to be a dick... but why do we keep making threads to commemorate random ass anniversaries of stuff? Generally such things are only noted at 5 years, 10, 15, 20, etc.

This movie is 9 years older then I am, and I've probably seen it just as many times as a lot of you.

The movie came out some months before I was born. I didn't get to watch it until like 2001. I liked it but admittedly I found it odd that it was a bit different from the FW cartoon and disappointed there was no Krang or Rocksteady. Also Splinter not being Hamato Yoshi and April being paired up with Casey confused me.

I liked it, anyway, and liked how Raphael was given so focus on it.

I've already posted this on the YouTube thread, but I just wanted to share this video I made to celebrate this momentous anniversary:

Well, it's good to see you know how time works. I'm sure someone will point out the 30th anniversary when it's due time.

Special edition

We'll probably see some kind of "Special edition" DVD or blueray (by then even more dying physical media formats) or whatever by 2020...

I am hoping for a 4KUHD Blu_Ray release of this film, I would buy it day one, if they released this version. The same goes for the sequels.

Probably yet another "Ultimate Boxset"

I love this movie. The low fi look and general grungy aesthetic of the film still captures my interest today. Best of all, they nailed the brother's dynamic. The turtles felt more nuanced than what we usually get. They were warm and a joy to be around, but they also had an edge. As a fan, I consider myself lucky that we got this film.

More like... 19 years of T-U-R-T-L-E power, followed by meager results and returns and middling FW re-digestions.

The movie was basically piggybacking off of Batman '89 which came out a year before. It was a very obvious blend of the Mirage comics and Burton Batman.

There is nothing "Tim Burton" about the first movie. And it was already filming when Batman hit theaters.
