DC Black Lightning Show from Flash Producer

http://screenrant.com/black-lightnin...how-dc-comics/

Not familiar with the character at all, but Greg Berlanti's been doing pretty good so far... interest piqued.

YESS!!!!

Black Lightning is one of my favorite characters of all time! If I'm not mistaken, he was one of DC's earliest Black superheroes as well.

Thanks for sharing Cy. Seriously, this news made my day!

Awesome!

I hope we'll see the fake 'fro and man-cleavage costume.

You're confusing him with Black Vulcan, who was created as a substitute for Lighting since his creator wouldn't sign off on letting him appear in the show.

Holy crap, does this mean the Arrowverse will have five shows now? (Excluding things like Vixen and Constantine that either are smaller or don't run anymore.)

Tony Isabella gave DC its second black/African American superhero with the subtly named Black Lightning. SuperFriends used him as a part of the diversity angel it went with for the Challenge season and a bit beyond. However he was renamed Black Vulcan to avoid paying his creator royalties.

Marvel makes Luke Cage, DCW makes Black Lightning. Thinly veiled, if you ask me.

Who is Black Lightning? I vaguely remember a background character in either Justice League Unlimited or Young Justice like this, but he didn't do anything of importance.

Why not just make a show about Static Shock? If you gonna have a black guy with lightning powers, at least make it the cool kid who flies around on a manhole cover with dreadlocks.

Does this mean it's in the Gotham universe instead of the Arrowverse, or another new universe entirely?

(They could pull a Supergirl and have it start out on its own universe and then have appearances from the CWverse.)

Pretty sure it'll be in it's own universe.

Black Lightning will be set in the Arrowverse and will air on the CW instead of Fox: https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc...fox-to-a148645

Eh. I'd rather they fold and bring him in on Legends of Tomorrow. Not convinced he'll support an entire show.

Also, I'm suffering CW super-opera fatigue. I can handle Flash and Legends, but that's it.

Every character deserves a chance to shine.

But not everybody deserves their own show, or movie, or comic series. Ain't no need for a Hawkeye movie, and I ain't convinced that there's not no need for a Black Lightning show.

Character descriptions for Lightning, his daughters, and his ex were released, meaning we should be hearing about casting soon. Sounds like the show will be changing the setting to LA instead of Suicide Slums.

Quote:
JEFFERSON PIERCE:

“Male, African-American, late 30s to 50. Handsome, fit, with an athletic build. Former 3-time gold medal decathlon winner who is now principal of a high school in South Central Los Angeles. A father figure to his student and hero to the local community. JEFFERSON is charming, charismatic, smart, and has both warmth and humor. He is devoted to his two daughters and remains deeply in love with his ex-wife LYNN. He also has a great passion for justice and a quick temper that he has spent years learning how to control. Think Idris Elba. LEAD.

JENNIFER:
Female. African-American, LEGAL 18 to play 16. JEFFERSON’s younger daughter. JENNIFER is a scholar athlete; beautiful with a lean, athletic runner’s build. She is the entitled feminist of the Pierce family. Independent and outspoken with a wild streak. SERIES REGUALR, ASP.

ANISSA:
Female. African-American, to play 22. JEFFERSON’s elder daughter. Beautiful, quick-witted and intelligent; intense and passionate. ANISSA has a great respect for her father. ANISA balances the demands of medical school with her duties as a part time teacher at JEFFERSON’s school. SERIES REGULAR, ASP.

LYNN: Female, African-American, mid 30s to 50. Exudes confidence and intelligence. Beautiful, but not to be trifled with. Can exhibit both great emotional depth as well as a flirtatious, mischievous side. SERIES REGULAR, ASP.
