I thought the gimmick for the second to last level was kind of cute, but ultimately meaningless. I'm on (I've been told) the last stage now, so we'll see how that turns out. Mania is definitely a return to form, but I don't know if they could just pull this same thing off again next time. |

Welcome Back, Peanut!
Yeah I always disliked Oil Ocean but to be honest Chemical Plant is probably my least favorite StH2 level. |

Yeah I gotta say Chem Plant and Oil Ocean isn't my fav from Sonic 2 too, but I'm really digging the changes they made for these levels in Mania especially new paths, the jello and the fire shield burning the oil. It's made better now and I like it a lot.

My biggest issue with Chemical Plant zone is that they bring it back about as much as Green Hill. It's a pretty average Sonic level, at best, but gets treated like a straight classic. |

Personally, I don't get the hype of the stage. The modernization in Sonic Generations I liked, but otherwise, I don't see its appeal.

The only time they brought back Chemical Plant was Generations as far as I remember.

Chemical Plant also made a reappearance in Lego Dimentions' Sonic Level Pack and Chemical Plant is mentioned in a cutscene for Sonic Forces so it might make a reappearance there. I think if there's any level worthy of taking 2nd place for "Most overused level in a Sonic Game"(With Green Hill of course being #1), my pick would have have to be Sonic 2's Special Stages. There's probably over a dozen of the the whole "Collect XX Rings" type of Special Stages at this point. |

Have you guys tried debug mode yet?
I love that I can use Sonic's Ability from Sonic 3 & Knuckles (when you tap jump twice, there's razor sharp swishes appear around him. I guess it's called "Insta-Shield"?). There's also other Sonic Ability from CD etc to choose from. "& Knuckles" mode is a hoot too, playing as twin Knuckles. With that mode it's cool to have Knuckles as your companion when playing as Sonic or Tails too. I only got 2 Chaos Emeralds for now, slowly getting grips with the Special Stage mechanics. I always prefer the blue spheres special stages in the classics so this one needs more practice on my part. |

Sonic Mania looks pretty fun and the OST is amazing. Stardust Speedway sounds amazing. It's also kinda cool that the man behind it, Tee Lopes, is a fellow country man of mine. . Perhaps Sega should let more fans cooperate with them in the future.
I like Chemical Plant Zone and Oil Ocean tbh. My least fave zones in Sonic 2 were Aqua Ruin and Mystic Cave Zone. Hill Top Zone was also a bit average, imo. The worst Sonic zones are Marble Zone, Labyrinth Zone and Marble Garden zone, imo. Labyrinth and Marble because it seems kind of pointless for zones comprised of 3 acts in a Sonic game to be fully about timing your jumps and avoiding enemies. You never really use your speed in those zones. I wonder if I should wait until i get a Switch to play Sonic Mania or if I'll just buy it on Steam. Are there any major differences between the different versions of the game? |

I think Chemical Plant gets so much recognition because of its music more than anything. Honestly, it's not a favorite of mine either, but I do like what Mania did with it during its second act as well as Oil Ocean, which I don't mind too much here as a whole. Personally, I think Casino Night would have been a better choice of a Sonic 2 level. I would have also liked to see Ice Cap Zone return rather than some of the choices they went with here. But anyway, I just beat the game again with Knuckles and I love that his playthrough has some significant differences from the others. He has a unique starting point in Green Hill, Mirage Saloon act 1 is an entirely different stage with a brand new boss, and Lava Reef act 2 has a new boss too.
The special stages have actually grew on me since I first played them. Once you memorize the stage pattern, remember all the short cuts, and get a feel for the movement, it actually becomes a whole lot easier. I had to get all the chaos emeralds during my first playthrough after I beat the game, but during my Knuckles run, I actually got all the emeralds early on. I think my biggest gripe with Sonic Mania has to be the unlockable abilities (aside from the debug mode) being exclusive to the no save file. They're really awesome unlockables but become rather pointless when you can't enjoy the whole game with them activated unless you were to play it all in one sitting.

......are you trying to say Sonic Forces is trying to be Persona when the button prompt comes up? Also, that gameplay video you posted is similar to Sonic Colors and not Boom, which leads me to believe you've just resorted to sh*tposting at this point and have no clue to what you're talking about.

Observe the bland colors, the crappy frame rates, the stilted animation(s), and the god awful (and consistently annoying) dialogue. Then watch the video above. Can you see the resemblance? Sonic Forces is Sonic Boom's twin brother. Are you really going to excuse Sega's pathetic excuse of a video game, let alone justify its current state? 'Cause I won't. Until Sega can make an acceptable and exceptional Sonic game, I think I'll continue voicing my contempt. 'Kay? Last edited by Papenbrook; 08-29-2017 at 05:44 PM. |

So this game can bring out the worst even in peace-preaching Papenbrook! So you are human after all.
