I really like the cover to that book for some reason; it's very stylish.

Does this count? That one on the left seems to be a traced Raph from TMNT #1. |

Heh, the one in the middle is also Raph from the issue #1 cover! More of a parody, but I like it!

Secret Origins v2 #48 - hard call whether it 'counts' as an appearance. There's a lot on the checklist that has just a ninja turtle visible in a crowd shot, this one's a bit different only because the parody characters are referred to as frogs, presumably for legal reasons.

Know Your Obscure TMNT Appearances marches on!
from Equine the Uncivilized #6: On the cover, Leonardo leads the pack chasing the titular character. That's Panda Khan in a hole as well-- Space Beaver got cropped out. In the story, the Turtles work as bouncers at Club Akbar and Huginn's Valhalla-- Equine gets bounced. ... and the Turtles go fishing for snacks at the character jam party on the last page. |

Venom, thanks for this list! I never realized there were so many 80's turtle appearances in random independent comics.
I found a couple of things I don't see in your list: Comics Interview #79: It features the Turtles, though it's mainly interviews related to the first movie. Cover: https://d1466nnw0ex81e.cloudfront.ne.../4216121_1.jpg Independent Comic Book Sampler #2. I'm not sure what this is, but it has the TMNT on the cover. I found it while googling. Does anyone have any info on it? Both issues of it look interesting. Some links about it: http://www.tmnt-ninjaturtles.com/blog/?p=17 http://gunkldunk.wordpress.com/2008/...ampler-2-1988/ https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=135001 |

my understanding is it's a listing of creators and their books from the 80s independent comics boom. Last edited by wilddiverse; 05-12-2011 at 09:58 PM. |

Order came faster than expected-- the book is an odd thing full of bios, art, and short comics by all the creators listed on the cover, along with information on how to get copies of their work.
It's small, only 5 1/2" x 4", so actual size is smaller than these cover scans: The regular cover is the black & white one (4000 copies), the green & white cover was limited to 50 copies-- 10 were given as prizes in a write-in contest announced in the back of the book and the remaining copies were given to the contributors. (No, I don't have a copy of the green one.) A colored version of this cover was used as the cover of Comics Interview #27. I edited the two TMNT-related blurbs onto a single page: And the highlight: a Kevin Eastman pin-up: All in all, it's an interesting little artifact showcase of the independent comics explosion that the TMNT ignited in the 1980s. |

Okay, time to bother Venom about updating his checklist:
- Digital Webbing Presents 24 has 3-4 variant covers. - Fire Sale has no TMNT content, just a cool one-page Eastman story. - TMNT/Savage Dragon Mini Comic (Action Figure pack-in) has 7 covers. - Turtle Force Fan Club Mini Comic AKA Street Collectors Edition. - Independent Comics Sampler #2 not listed - has Eastman TMNT pin-up. - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1-3 (cereal mini-comics) not listed. - Warriors of the Forgotten Sewer mini-comic/toy pack-in not listed. and it seems like Tundra Sketchbook #9 - Michael Dooney should be included as its contents include TMNT material that outclasses most of the pin-ups in random B&W 1980s comics. For example: EDIT: There's also five pages of Soul's Winter TMNT sketches in Tundra Sketchbook #3 - Michael Zulli.

Actually the Turtle Force mini-book is listed. I thought I was the one that told ya about Dooney's sketchbook several months back? Digital Webbing #24 I'll change to Andy Tong TMNT variant, since the others are different covers. For some reason that just doesn't fit into completionist territory in my mind. The TMNT cover does, but not so much the other ones.

More fodder for your blotter:
Colt #2 (first printing) from KZ Comics in 1985 has a Laird pin-up of Colt the Armadillo and Leo. The first 3000 copies printed have a Laird pin-up, the remaining 10000 have a Fred Hembeck pin-up. Whoomp!:

New for the appearances list!
Fantastic Fanzine #11 I could have sworn I saw this on the list at one point, was it removed? Book features and interview with Kevin and Peter, and features Turtle and Fugitoid art. The Comic Block #6 Features a very very early (the issue date is June of 84) TMNT ad. The art is original specifically made for the ad: |
