Looks like it's out. I'll probably wait a week or so to let them work out the kinks. No rush.

My GOD did this game piss me the **** off to get it working right. It took a while to download the ****er, then I had to sign up for a Capcom ID that links to your PSN ID (I heard it helps enable crossplay) and I had to figure out how to turn off 'modern controls' and set everyone up with Classic Controls for Ranked Matches.
Started with Cammy cause she's familiar, then tried out Kimberly. Once I got everything set right, the game was a blast. Plus, better play now before everyone becomes a super combo expert. It'll take a while for that new parry system and block system to become second nature, but it's not as difficult to get used to as I thought it would be. For anyone that just bought and had the same problems that I had, do this- 1. Go to your Battle Settings. 2. Highlight the character you want and enter their settings menu. 3. You will get the option to select their control scheme. Set it to Classic, but DO NOT EXIT THE SCREEN YET. 4. Hit Triangle/Y and you will see a popup asking if you want to apply your control settings to all characters. Click Yes.

So far the game has been loads of fun. I've been slowly trying out all the characters, so far Kimberly and Manon are my favorite newcomers to use.
The World Tour is alright, has a bit of a story regarding what's been happening in Metro City lately where you run into the several Street Fighters and get trained by them. You can eventually mix and match your moves Iike having one of Chun Li's moves and one of Luke's moves and so forth. The Battle Hub lets you play older Capcom games like SF2 and Final Fight and also go against other players without it counting as ranked match. The commentary mode is kinda entertaining though a bit distracting. Kinda wish they recorded twice as many lines, I'm already hearing repeated dialogue on my first time out. It's supposed to be as if you were playing in Capcom Pro Tour/Evo even though in real life I doubt the actual players can hear the commentary.

Bought the standard version of the game for PS5 and dicked around a little bit in it last night. Apparently the whole online side of the game was "down for maintenance" last night, so I could only do single-player stuff.
Right away, what is this "modern gameplay" (vs. classic gameplay) mode? It LOOKS like it makes it so you have to hit less buttons to do moves, to make it easier for people? Uhh... is this true? And if so, you could be playing against someone who's using modern gameplay while you're using classic, at no handicap? That doesn't seem remotely fair and would just seem to disincentivize people playing the game normal, with the normal button moves and combos and all. So I just played arcade story mode through with Chun Li once, lost a few matches in, and called it a day. Beyond the new... I forgot what they called them, so I'll call them "energy moves" and "energy blocking" (with the "energy paint" and such that slops off) it doesn't strike me right away as wholly different from SF5.

To give you more appropriate answer: Modern controls reduce amount of buttons you need to press and simplify controls, so you don't need to do complex moves. However, it comes at a price: you have less control over your character, since some of the moves become unavailable and special moves deal less damage in a Modern controls scheme. In general, if you want to get anywhere good in SF6 - you play Classic controls, since control over your character and precision are much more important than immediate execution, not to mention, pros won't have problem with Classic control scheme at all. If anything people are using Classic controls, because, of a usual dick measuring contest fighting game cause , i.e. noobs don't want to look like noobs and use whatever pros are using (Classic), even though at their skill level it doesn't make any difference, whatsoever. I also noticed that unlike SF4 and 5, the EX moves (super versions of regular moves, when you press say 2 kick buttons instead of just one when doing a kick move) don't chip away at your super meter like it did before. You can now spam em until your drive gauge is down. The Drive Gauge also factors in a lot, because the Drive Impact, EX Moves, and other goodies rely on that bar. Once you run out you go into burnout, and it's a bit of a strategy making sure you don't run out, but also taking advantage of when your opponent is now in burnout. Finally, in SF6, stay the hell away from the corners if the opponent has Drive Gauge. If they hit you with a Drive Impact, you splat against the wall and you're wide open for a combo or a super. The game is hella fun, I finally got Cammy to Gold a week ago.

My computer can't handle it and I only have a Switch as far as current gen consoles go. So it will be awhile until I am able to play both SF6 and MK1.
I bought SFV and MKX on Steam yesterday, though. Late to the party but whatever. |

Year 2 was announced, starting off with an amnesiac Bison. We also have Elena from Street Fighter 3, and the surprise additions of Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui!!
KOF 15 also announced new characters are coming and a 'special' character will be announced at Evo. Many people are speculating it might be a Street Fighter character to go along with what's happening in SF6.

This world tour mode has got to be one of the worst single player modes I've played in a game in recent memory. Feels like a relic from early 2001-2002 or something

I haven't been playing much of any of them any more.
SF6: feels too much like 5 to me and the new modes didn't really grab me. But maybe I didn't give them that much of a fair shake. MK1: way too much like 11 with like half of the characters. Story seems whack. T8: A nice update from 7 but none of my characters are in it yet and don't seem to be anywhere on the horizon.

So Street Fighter 6 gets Terry and Mai
City of the Wolves gets Ken and Chun Li It's funny how we speculated SF6 characters in KOF 15, but it turned out to be for City of Wolves. It makes sense though to have them for the upcoming game that is generating hype (for SNK fans anyway) rather than KOF 15 that is already on its way out. |
