2014 was 10 years ago. What video games were you playing at the time?

Since I didn't have any of that gen's domestic consoles and didn't get a 3DS until 2016, I mostly played on Steam. I mostly remember playing Borderlands 2 co-op with some online friends occasionally. I also played a few other games on Steam, but didn't really commit to any in particular at the time.I just tried a few different ones.

I don't remember whether I played any Retrogames or not. If I did it wasn't very often, otherwise I'd remember something.

What about you?

Come to think of it, 2014 was the last year I played video games before I abandoned the hobby completely. I played Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze and South Park: Stick of Truth (that was the last game I ever played I think). Strangely enough, after games had been a huge part of my life for years, I never looked back.

Grand Theft Auto 5 only came out at the end of 2013, so I'm sure I was still playing that.

By 2014 I was pretty much done with video games. Resident Evil 5 was the last good modern game in my opinion and that was 2009. Instead of playing modern games, I recently went back to the 1980s/1990s NES, Genesis, SNES era. I'm sorry if it's not 2014, but it was my generation and I feel like games then were better than any game we've had in the past 15 or so years.

I kind of fell off games between 2009 and 2012, but then got back into them eventually.

The only major Nintendo system I never got.

How long has Rockstar milked GTA5 for?

I know the Wii U gets a lot of hate but I loved that system. The controller was big and bulky but still comfortable to hold.

The top 3 I can think of are:

Shovel Knight
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Grand Theft Auto 5

I didn't get a PS4 until 2015. Haha.

People stop playing videogames? Really?

In 2014 I was likely playing Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3, and Mario 3D World. The Wii-U had some great games in that first year.

I didn't have a PS4 yet so I was catching up on some PS3 games. The Last of Us came out in 2013, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Dead Space 3, God of War Ascension, Splinter Cell, Rayman Legends, etc.

Believe it or not, it's more common than you'd think. Especially among those who were kids back in the 70s-80s.

My brother was born in 1983, and by the time he was in his 20s, a lot of people he knew from his generation pretty much stopped gaming. Some even stopped when they were teens still after the end of the SNES and the Mega Drive generation.

Gaming had more of a stigma back then. By the time you were an older teenager or a young adult, you were not supposed to either play games anymore or at least talk about it in public.

Hell, my brother must have been the only 16 year old in the whole country to buy and play Pokémon Red back in 1999. Everyone else playing it were kids around my age at the time. Nowadays, you'll have 30+ year old adults playing Pokémon games. Things sure have changed.

NBA 2k14 was probably the best 2k basketball game. The graphics were such an insane improvement thanks to the jump from Ps3/Xbox360 to PS4/Xbox1

Definitely was playing a lot of GTA V that year too. I never got it until I got the xbox one so it would have been around 2014 I was playing it.

Played a ton of Stick of Truth (best south park game to this day) and Arkham Origins as well.

Pretty much the same for me although I came back and dabbled probably around 2017 or '18. I think the last games I played where the PS4 Attack On Titan games and the awesome Battlechasers RPG.

I bought "The Sunken City" and opened it to look at the manual but literally have never booted the game up. My PS4 has very few game hours on it all things considered.
