The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

First game in the series where Zelda is the main character... First official game that is... We're... We're not going to to talk about... "Those"...

Eh, OK. It looks like they started thinking about using the Link's Awakening engine to do a Link to the Past remake -- which they should've done already -- but while they were at it they wondered if rather than doing that, recreate the world of Link to the Past but with a new game/story. Around Zelda.

Whatever, it looks fine. Again, just would've much preferred a LTTP remake first. With some bonus dungeons or new sidequests or something.

This game is going to be fun indeed! Nintendo decided to backtrack to their earlier games such as Zelda's Adventure and Wand of Gamelon. Nice move in choosing the Link's Awakening chibi style instead of using the updated ToK models. It will be funny if they bring back the cut scenes from the Wand of Gamelon. Talking about meme worthy.

One thing really bothers me about this game. The fact that Zelda can't actually fight. You know like whack enemies with a weapon. Everything else looks great. I prefer classic Zelda over BOTW and TOTK. However, not being able to whack enemies really bugs me and makes me question if I want to buy the game or not

Well Zelda is the protagonist after all these years, and that's all that matters.

At first, I was thinking it might be a remake of A Link to the Past. Anyway, I'm interested, and I'm glad I can own it in three months.

Of course the Nintendo Direct didn't announce ports of The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, but I see no reason to hold my breath for that to be honest. We're getting a whole new game instead. So that's good. I wonder if there will be any amiibo announced for it later. The ND didn't announce one for any of the games it showcased.

I showed it to my daughter who is still glued to both Breath of the Wild games. Her reaction: "What?! You can finally play as Zelda but you can't fight? That seems insulting."

This will sell a TON based purely upon the novelty of Nintendo giving finally Zelda her own game.

I dunno. Armed only with the "Power of Creation"?

Zelda had two games in the past already. This new game is capitalizing from both of them. Hopefully we'll have some appearances from Sheik in this game.

I'm sure she will find other tools during the adventure. Probably not weapons, but who knows.

She used to fight with a bow and arrows in the American Zelda comics and cartoons from the late 1980's and early 1990's.

Why did anyone expect Princess Zelda to actively fight? Because of Smash and Hyrule Warriors?

Interesting! Can't say I expected anybody to get angry about this game.

Which aspect, specifically?

To be honest we don't even know if this is a "real" Zelda game. Does it have 8 dungeons? Puzzles? All we know is the overworld and some of the mechanics so far.

They made Peach's Showtime earlier this year which was a Peach spinoff and not a platformer, so I don't know if this is a "real" Zelda game. It's a spinoff in the same vain.

So you do get a "swordfighter mode" but it looks... not great?

So it's out today. I'm seeing articles and such saying there isn't any multiplayer/co-op... but right there on the order page it says there is multiplayer/co-op. And I see videos with Link and Zelda being played simultaneously on Youtube. It might be a mistake but I hope not? That could make things 400% more enjoyable if I could play with, say, my daughter simultaneously.

So is this game any good? Has anybody here beaten this game yet? I'm still on the fence about buying it.

So I have been playing it. After about a day, I've been rather hooked. It feels more like "Zelda" than BotW to me. There are actual dungeons, bosses, and it feels like a spiritual sequel to "A Link to the Past" even though it oddly exists in its own exclusive spot in the timeline (Link is just a mysterious "Swordsman" in it, and Zelda has never met him until the beginning of the game). There is the "spirit dimension" instead of the "Dark World," so there's that same sort of dichotomy as LttP.
