700, no disc drive (costs $70 extra as an attachment), not even a stand is included (this came bundled with the original ps5) I think it's around $100 overpriced personally.

GPU power has increased but it seems CPU power is nearly the same. There's a lot of skepticism as to rather this will allow for much difference in games as a result. Basically you can get higher resolution and higher FPS and not a lot more, you won't get more complex environments or NPC behavior for example, or anything that would require more CPU power

I built a new gaming pc this year so totally don't need this. But, I can sell my existing PS5 to fund about half the cost of a PS5 Pro, and GTA6 will be console exclusive for a year or so and i'll probably want a ps5 pro to enjoy that game... so I will still be thinking about it. I am pretty miffed about the pricing though.

Actually, technically … you can buy a disc drive separately and attach it but at that price these days, it should at least come with one for those still with physical games.

I get it. I know digital is more ROI efficient but yeah, for people with disc games who would want to make an upgrade … that’s just asking for way too much.

Truthfully I don’t even have a PS5 and I was contemplating going Series X just for Game Pass, but even that doesn’t seem like a good deal anymore. PlayStation wise I still have my PS4 from 2014, but maybe I’ll grab a PS5 this year if there’s a good sale on those base or slim models.

I don’t know, since getting a Switch in 2020 - it’s where I like to do all of my gaming since those are the kind of games I gravitate toward. Astro Bot looks so damn good though.

Consoles have pretty much caught up with semi-cutting edge PCs. And good luck building a semi-cutting edge PC for less than about a grand.

I don’t have a PS5 but no disc drive is a complete deal breaker and I’m assuming the standard PS5 will NOT get a price drop either.

Someone once told me on the Sonic Retro boards that Sony loses money on every PS5 because it’s so expensive to produce or something. I’ve never looked into that but that’s way too much. I remember when people were upset that the PS2 was $300 Being able to play DVDs and PS1 games was major plus at the time.

I can just imagine going to someone on the street and handing them $600 cash. Sound so risky, I'd come with like 3 bodyguards just in case.

But I don't interact with gangsters in the hood and live among high society, as a white guy I'm pretty disconnected from the whole underground, gangster, rap culture scene. I do not intend to live out GTA in real life.

I'm well aware. But I can't justify paying that much money for an upgraded console when the current version of the PS5 that I have does the same exact thing.

And I think that's the consensus most consumers have. There is a very niche audience that will consistently upgrade to the newest, flashiest tech ... but, at the end of the day, most people are not going to jump into this and I think how they're advertising it is telling. It felt like they announced the price and ran out of the room at the end of that presentation.

The well is already kind of dry gaming wise for Sony as far as major titles go, so why spend the $700 just for remasters of PS4 games?

And I say all this as someone who is still probably down to get a PS5, haha. I've put it off for so long cause there hasn't been that killer app that made me feel like it was necessary and truthfully again, Nintendo Switch gives me the gaming experience I like with the platformers, indies and retro games ... so I may just stay in the world of Nintendo forever at this point.

That said, the hype for GTA might bring me in. And again, Astro Bot looks so damn good.

Geez... and here I am with no real reason to get a PS5 or 5 Pro.

Like... maybe if Garou City of Wolves was for the PS5 exclusively, maybe but it's not. I like Tekken but not enough to buy a console over.

Street Fighter 6 is just starting. By the time they wrap that one up and we get to talks of Street Fighter 7, the PS6 will surely be around the corner.

Astro Bot Rescue was GREAT on PSVR1. The regular Astro Bot game on PS5 launch was... OK, but right away I was missing the awesome VR element. The new one just seems like more of the same.
