Basically, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson outraged animal rights people when he posted some pictures with his family at an aquarium.

So of all people who visit aquariums, zoos, etc. they're gonna point the finger at The Rock. For the record, aren't those places actually helping toe preserve a lot of species? Modern day zoos, for example, are no longer places where animals sit sadly inside cages. They try to emulate their natural habitats and best and give them decent roaming space.

It's not like he went to the circus or attended a bullfighting event.

Of course, people will get angry at Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Visiting wild animals that should be in the wild, not in a man made enclosure. Look at poor Lolita at the horrendous Miami Seaquarium, stuck in that tiny tank for 48 years and without seeing other orca since Hugo died in 1980. And making stupid tricks for naive people.

No. Zoos and aquariums are collection of animals. It will never be the same seeing them in those places. It's different and amazing see them in the wild. If we, humans, would protect animals' natural habitats, no zoos or aquariums will exist. We are not the only beings on this planet. Then according to you, living in a favela will emulate your comfortable house.

Instead of visiting those places, go to visit a National Park where you live. You will see wildlife in their natural habitat and after that visit you don't want to return to a zoo or an aquarium. I refuse to visit a zoo after I went to visit a National Park where I live.

You are silly and incredibly naive! Zoos must exist within our world because the only way to actually get people to care about such things is if they can actually see it. The animals in zoos serve as the ambassadors for the remainder of their species in the wild. For some species they only exist within zoos thanks to zoos because their habitat is gone and they unfortunately faced extinction. I agree that we need to be better about education and taking care of the world we have left but do you actually think the majority of zoos aren’t trying to help with the education and forwarding of both animal and habitat preservation? Zoos certainly arent perfect but they are for the most part fighting the good fight.
