In the past movie scheduling around the world was all over the place but because of piracy it's minimal now.

Yeah, same here. Releasing a movie on different dates in different markets seems like something they shouldn't have to anymore, with little effect. Why release the movie over three random weekdays in some markets and then a full week later in the market the movie was produced in?

I always thought they might do something like that even without the sale, they could've brought Hugh Jackman as "unknown hero" who says "I'm from another world" and have him go to a fight, sure we wouldn't see his claws or being called Wolverine but it'd be a nice 6 second cameo of "wolverine" in the MCU to throw fans a bone and not violating any copyright in the process.

I would imagine that Jackman would refuse any offer by principle, since he's talked so romantically about leaving the character. Or more practically, because getting into shape for Wolverine is just getting harder and harder for him as he gets older.
If they want a Wolverine for Avengers, why, they just conveniently introduced a new Wolverine character in the last X-movie!

Yeah, if the timing had been different maybe a cameo or actual feature appearance could have been worked out but Hugh Jackman has been playing Wolverine for 17 years at this point. Even if he wasn't getting tired of it, which he is, and despite the fact that he said he'd be interested in appearing alongside the Avengers, I think that when he said that the odds of the X-men and Avengers appearing onscreen together were pretty much nil, but now that they they have the opportunity to Jackman and the rest of the original X-men cast along with the cast from most of the other movies are too old or burnt out to return to their X-men roles, which is still just assuming that Disney/Marvel would want them to, which I think is unlikely.

If I were Disney/Marvel, I wouldn't want to be beholden to a previous continuity owned by a rival production company. Even if I wasn't planning on using that contnuity, but retconning it all instead, the best thing to do is just ignore the films that came before and start the characters over from scratch with new actors in new stories
