One thing I've found interesting about The Little Mermaid is that Ursula actually cares about her henchman.

I mean, she's actually enraged that they got killed. And need I mention "poor little poopsies"

They were more than just henchmen though- they were pets. Like Joanna was in Rescuers Down Under. She apparently had some sort of connection to them like Maleficent had with her crow. Kind of sad how they died if you think about it.

I get called down to the registers downstairs at work. Need to check a price.

Customer is claiming a clearance item isn't coming up $3.99 as the clearance sign says.

Tells us she even took a photo of the sign - Oh really? Well it seems you came prepared to try to play dumb and get away with this! Huh.

Proceeds to show me and the cashier the photo on her phone.

I proceed to state that no, as can be clearly seen IN the photo (and in my own hand writing!), there is a notation that very clearly states that the $3.99 price is for two particular products only: The 2-pack pants and a brand of sleep shirts.

This she had was a clearance Joe Boxer shirt and pant set, which are not clearanced that deep nor part of the added discount right now. She told me (which I later saw was a lie as there are abt a dozen left right under the $3.99 sign) that "There were no sleep shirts," as if this was relevant to her talking us into this discount of $10+ less than the price it actually was.

I mean, if it was just a couple bucks higher and she was sweet about it, she might have gotten her way, but trying to play dumb and play us like that... nope.

Maybe someone had put it back in the wrong place, it happens constantly, but even then that is not our fault and does not require us to hand over the discount on the rack it was wrongly thrown onto (or claim it was on)... esp when there is notation that has been there for some WEEKS now and NO ONE until this woman today was "confused" about it. (And plenty have clearly understood as the two products it was for have finally sold like crazy.) But given the interaction I'm pretty sure she wasn't dumb enough to be confused by that and instead just trying to play us.

Kind of made me laugh though that here she is trying to convince and show this pic to the person who put it up...

Ehhh, I wouldn't put Joanna there, Mcleech wasn't all that good to her. The Maleficent connection works, though.

But, since they could actually talk to her, I think they'd be in the gray zone triad between pets, henchmen and "sons she never had".

That is just- ugh. I understand completely. We get similar issues with idiots trying to use multiple coupons/discounts on our app, when it CLEARLY states that only one coupon can be applied. Or they try to use one for an item that is CLEARLY not included in the discount price. (No, burritos do not count as a 1$ sandwich...)

Well, seems I'll be babysitting my sister-in-law's dog for two weeks...fortunately, the three girl cats will go to my mom during that time. Bubba will be fine.

Well apparently ALL the fish could talk so there's that. And as mean as he was at times, I DO think Mcleech still cared about Joanna in his own warped way. Kind of like an abuser "cares" about their victim. Might not be healthy but it's THEIR idea of what friendship/love is. Seen it often enough to get that kind of relationship.

Today has proven that watching this dog will be interesting. He's great while there's people around, but I came home from school to him dying for attention, and the trashcan knocked over with its contents scattered.

Fortunately it was a pretty easy cleanup, but still.

My dad has a lot of evidence that he had been muzzled prior to his rescue, and part of that is not wanting to play with his big toys. So we'll be getting him some little ones sometime later that's easier for him to chew.

Lol sorry it was just the impression I remember getting from them in that movie. It's been years since I last saw it so take that as you will. Just always thought of it as "abusive owner/slavishly loyal pet" dynamic. Like beaten dog syndrome. Not that he actually did beat her that I recall, but the mild threats seemed to imply that she might end up dinner one day. I know a few pet owners like that.... (And then there's my mom who gives names to future food- they just had another calf born this week and as soon as sex is determined it will likely get some cute name until they sell it off to get turned into Happy Meals lol.)

He certainly was no Madame Medusa with her alligators, but I don't think anyone gets quite the level of Ursula (and as you pointed out, Maleficent) with their henchpets.

Ah I completely forgot about Mm. Medusa! Hmm, what abou Sacr and the hyenas? I mean TECHNICALLY they were "henchanimals", so.... Or maybe I'm just overthinking it. I dunno I feel like we might be missing one here or there somewhere. Maximus maybe? For the Captain of the guard- forgot his name. Except he ended up an ally to Flynn and Rapun. Oh wait- Lucifer!!! That cat was as bad as his mistress!!

Oh yeah, Lady Tremaine definitely had a lot of affection for Lucifer.

Scar had no affection for the hyenas though. Need we remember that they are the ones that decided to off him instead of Simba. He was literally given to the dogs. Even though hyenas aren't actually dogs...they're really more cat-like.

More like that oddball cousin that nobody talks about because everyone knows there was something hinky going on between family members when they were conceived.... Strangely enough, hyenas DO sit near an evolutionary juncture between canine and feline branches. Also mustalids, if memory serves.

Not as weird as armadillos. Those suckers give birth to cloned quads. And they are somehow immune to rabies. And they really DO pull that cartoon "jump straight up and spin in a ball in midair" crap! (Then again I once had a cat who could literally do the stretchy legs out to the sides to stay out of the bathtub thing, so that's a thing too.)
