Yes, and that precedent was set in the first movie, where the whole point was how little humans knew about dragons.

Most people don't know the sex of their reptiles until one of them lays eggs, or in the case of snakes a probe is employed.

Toothless is dark/drab in color, and we know they hunt.
Most female animals are dark/drab in color when compared to their male counter parts, and in some species the females are the ones that do the hunting.

Conversely, in the new poster the other Night Fury is white. Since in nature males are more likely than females to be flashy in appearance, I'd say that's as good a reason as any that the new dragon could be male.

Plus, if we look at Yin and Yang, white is the masculine color while black is the feminine.

The previous owners of my first pet turtle thought he was female and they had him for over 10 years before they sold him. They even tried to introduce him to another male turtle in hopes of getting "cute baby turtles to keep", strangely they tried to kill each other...

I rescued the turtle I've had the longest from a local no-kill shelter.
The had her listed as a Male Slider named Angelo.
She's a female Reeves named Lois now.

Reeves are so distinct from sliders, like I'd get confusing a cooter or a painted for a slider. But someone did the same thing on a reptile group on Facebook

And how I knew I had found the right vet for her was that when I walked in one of his techs commented absently about how pretty of a Reeves she was.

My assumption is that Valka would have confirmed or denied it. If she could tell Toothless' age right away, I'm sure she can do other things.

The other thing is that we already had that plot twist with Meatlug in one of the shorts. Not that it couldn't be done twice, though.

This, it doesn't belong here. There's always going to be someone complaining about something if you go to any niche. Outrage culture is in both sides, those who are outraged of everything and those who are outraged of everything the people who are outraged about everything.

I might steal that name idea if I ever go law-abiding turtle owner since reeves are the only turtle that's legal, but the reference might go unnoticed since we don't call them reeves' turtle but Chinese three-keeled turtle

I can't wait to see this movie even if there are character deaths and the surviving dragons have to be sent to this new world and never seen again...at least in Hiccup's lifetime.

I am sure they will leave it open at the end with the dragons going away and then a human in a later time period(more then likely now) finding them or at least one of the dragons.

They can continue on with the animated series though. It got renewed for a sixth and final season.
