Cats Movie Adaption

a movie adaption of the musical Cats is coming out this year. Here's a Behind The Scenes Video featuring all the actors in this movie. They aren't in costume. As the actors will be covered in CGI to make them appear as Cats. The Trailer is expected on Friday.

There's already been a direct stage-to-screen video adaptation of Cats. Given the original play's choreography and script, I don't see a more "movie-like" version doing well. It doesn't make sense....

The movie version will have a bigger budget. Plus it will use motion capture technology so that all the actors look like the Cats.

They already do that with makeup for the stage play. Have you ever even SEEN Cats? It's a DANCE/musical performance. And the story is mostly just a kind of gathering of cats on a particular night to tell their individual stories and deteemin who gets to go to the "Heaviside Layer" fo the next life. It doesn't really translate well to a movie adaptation like some other musicals would.

But the Cats will look more realistic in the actual movie. and not looking like people dressed in face paint.

Taylor Swift is pretty hot as a Cat.

People who have seen the trailer on Youtube are just as divided about the trailer as the general public is about the musical. Right now it has 13,000 likes and 12,000 dislikes. If it keeps getting negative reception, it could end up like the Sonic the Hedgehog film. Although I'm not sure of Hooper and Universal will listen to fans like Paramount and Jeff Fowler did.

They don't realize that the Cats are supposed to look that way. Have you seen how they looked in the original Play? The performers where cat suits and have makeup on to look like Cats. What this movie is trying to do. Is make these Cats look more realistic. By applying what they are calling Digital Fur Technology.

I watched the 1998 direct-to-video film recording of the musical in middle school after reading the poems by T.S. Eliot. The characters and sets look completely different from that one.

It figures you'd be the first one to jump to this garbage's defense.

A movie based on a musical isn't as far fetched as a musical based on a book of ridiculous cat poems ( T. S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats).

I'm surprised it took them such a long time to try and make a movie of this musical.

Well they sort of already did with the 1998 direct-to-video performance.

Also, Stephen Spielberg had been working on an animated adaptation in the 90's, but the project was cancelled.

Wow sheer laziness, why not hire make up artists than put humans in CGI suits? sheer laziness.

She looks like Selina Kyle in the Tyger Tyger episode of Batman the animated series (anyone remembers that episode where she got turned into an actual cat-woman?), only difference is that Selina Kyle as a catgirl in that episode was actually sexy (of course Selina is lovely no matter how she looks) compared to the abomination in that photo.

Hell even Cleo from Heathcliff, that three breasted alien cat dancer from Star Trek V (one of the best things about it), Callie Briggs from Swat Kats, M'ress from Star Trek, Mirage from Aladdin, Jenny from Bucky O'Hare, Felicia from Darkstalkers games, Aishia Clan Clan from Outlaw Star and Cheetara/Pumarya from Thundercats are even more attractive that the cat-lady in the photo

Yeah... Rebel Wilson CGI'd into a naked cat isn't something I would have expected. I never saw the musical, so my only experience with the source material is T. S. Eliot's whimsical "Practical Cats" stories.

I would prefer some semblance of clothing on those CGI monsters. In regards to the play, the audience at least recognizes a "costume" is being worn, but here it dives head-first into the uncanny valley.

Why not get Rick Baker to do make up for them than lazy CGI? i mean he did well with cat people in Beauty and the Beast the series and Thriller.
