I would love it if we get to see 90s-era Rogue with Captain Marvel powers on screen one day.

Come to think of it, they do have the rights to most of the Marvel Cartoons now as well. Including X-Men TAS and 90's Spider-Man, that'll make for good streaming content. Let's here, Marvel based TV shows they now own:

Spoiler:
  • Spider-Woman (probably, production company seems to have merged with Disney through other mergers)
  • Spider-Man ´81 (probably, same as above)
  • Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (probably, same as above)
  • Hulk ´82 (probably, same as above)
  • Pryde of the X-Men (Technically just a pilot, so let's call it a "short")
  • X-Men ´92
  • Iron Man ´94
  • Fantastic 4 ´94
  • Spider-Man ´94
  • Ultraforce (possibly)
  • Hulk ´96
  • Silver Surfer
  • Spider-Man Unlimited
  • The Avengers: United They Stand
  • X-Men: Evolution (Maybe, possibly Film Roman but the copyright just states Marvel)
  • Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes (unless Dargaud does, which I think might be on of only 2 possible instances where a French company would own a Marvel cartoon)
  • Wolverine and the X-Men (I think? The copyright only states Marvel but in regards to the characters.)
  • Iron Man: Armored Adventures (Same with FFWGH, but with a lot more companies involved. More on this underneath the spoiler tag.)
  • The Super Hero Squad Show (maybe)
  • The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (probably)

There's a lot of maybe's here, but the only one here I have any serious doubts about is Armored Adventures as that's just about the only one that doesn't just list Marvel as the copyright holder or a company bought by Disney, but rather a multitude of companies. Unless it was made by Fox, Saban or some other company bought by Disney, then take what this list says with a grain of salt.

I'm still hoping this is a great film. I am hoping both that the re-shoot was used to add Warlock, as was rumored, and that they find some way to capture the intensity of Bill Sienkiewicz artwork in some tense way.
The latter is sort of a large request, but that is what makes the Demon Bear Saga special in the first place, which is what the film is based upon.

Maybe we'll get a Man of Steel 2 before this New Mutants movie.

Shesus... and they're still not even doing any reshoots for it anymore? Just dump it on Hulu, for heaven's sakes.

Release it, take the hit, and move on.

Plus, do they really want to move this even closer to their actual reboot X-Men movies?

Dump it out ASAP. The sooner they do, the sooner the fetid stink of Singer's legacy can dissipate.

Yeah, I'm not really sure what the business upside is here. What exactly do they stand to gain by this?

They're not going to make more money. They're not going to save more money. They're not going to win anything in PR.

Where's the win?

I'm shocked they didn't just throw it out on Blu-ray/Disney Plus and call it a day.

Totally devil's advocate here and nothing supported by any actual facts... but maybe, maybe Disney/Marvel sees something within what was shot of "The New Mutants?" In terms of, "well, this is interesting, and it's pretty divorced from the Singerverse anyway... maybe this can be remolded as some kind of mutants intro to the MCU."

Ehhh... possibly? Certainly saves bucks doing something from scratch. And my theory would require them actually doing new reshoots which there is no evidence of.

They'll probably just put it on a streaming service. I doubt they'll never release it at all if most of it is done.

Looks like Disney might be keeping their options open for this to be an MCU-verse film:

Great, this horror movie definitely needed more $hit humor. Good for them.
